Here is a gallery of some photos taken on our cruises …

I grabbed this shot in 2008 as our cruise ship approached to dock at Nassau in the Bahamas. I believe that is the Atlantis resort in the background and the Paradise Island lighthouse as the focus of the shot.
Today is Memorial Day 2016 (this year happens to be May 30). Here’s a shot I got of the Statue of Liberty as we left aboard the Carnival Victory from New York City and to Canada in 2005. The backlighting of the late afternoon sun makes it an interesting photo (and illuminates the U.S. flag, too).
Allison was the only one in our cruise ship’s aft pool in this shot I got in the summer of 2005 during our cruise to Canada.
Of course cruises are just platforms for photography and you don’t have to have a great eye to get good photographs. I got this one of the rising sun during our stop at Nassau in the Bahamas on a cruise in 2008.
I grabbed this shot during a snorkeling tour when our cruise ship visited Cozumel in 2009. Allison and Stephen enjoyed the fish swimming past.
Today I’ll post yet another photo of the trademark lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove in Canada. We’ve done a northern cruise several times by flying into New York (ballgame and a Broadway show) and then a cruise to Canada. We’ve hit Halifax in Nova Scotia and St. John’s in Newfoundland. During the Halifax stop we always travel to Peggy’s Cove to walk on the rocks and see the lighthouse. I’m unsure of which year’s cruise we were on when I got this shot.
Allison got this beautiful shot of a sunset during our Caribbean cruise aboard a Carnival ship in 2010. It’s a nice contrast of the drops of water on the window to the sunset.
Here’s a view of the lower Manhattan skyline on a cloudy afternoon as we left on a cruise to Canada in 2005. The dull gray of the clouds nicely matches the dull gray of the water. In the center of the frame is the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum at Pier 89. The museum was closed the next year for renovations to the displays, including the USS Intrepid.
Here are passengers headed to the beach during our 2010 cruise to the western Caribbean. I got the shot from our balcony that faced the dock at Mahogany Bay at Roatan during that cruise stop at Honduras. Mahogany Bay at Roatan has a really wonderful beach and shore facilities.
Here’s the pilot boat the “Biscayne” as it traveled with our Carnival cruise ship as we headed out of Government Cut and into the Atlantic in June 2010. I grabbed this shot as we were going out of the Port of Miami.
Here’s a nice detail photo I got during a cruise in the summer of 2005. We were at a port in Canada (either New Brunswick or Nova Scotia) when I focused on these drops of water.
I’m revisiting some cruise photos from our trip in 2008. Here’s another one of the Paradise Island lighthouse near the harbor at Nassau in the Bahamas. Click here for all my lighthouse photos (including some from Peggy’s Cove in Canada).
The texture of these rocks makes for an interesting photo. I took this photo in 2005 when we visited Peggy’s Cove in Canada.
I should have chosen a better time to shoot a reflection off our cruise ship’s bridge rear window in 2008. You can see a reflection of a railing or something in the glass, but a different shot at a different time of day might have brought a better one.
I’ve always liked another shot of the Paradise Island lighthouse near the harbor at Nassau in the Bahamas that I got during a 2008 cruise. But you can always get multiple nice shots in the right conditions and here’s another view of the lighthouse.
Obviously this seabird had seen a cruise ship before – and just as obviously knows it’ll find some food somewhere (after all, why should it be any different than a cruise ship passenger?). I got this this one looking out onto the balcony of our stateroom during a 2008 cruise.
Being from South Florida, we’ve done a northern cruise several times by flying into New York (ballgame and a Broadway show) and then a cruise to Canada. We’ve hit Halifax in Nova Scotia and St. John’s in Newfoundland. During the Halifax stop we always travel to Peggy’s Cove to walk on the rocks and see the lighthouse.
It was slightly overcast (with a hint of smokestack) after a foggy start to this cruise in 2005 from New York to Canada aboard the Carnival Victory. The deck is wet not just from the morning dew, but the morning wash-down by the crew.
I took this shot over our balcony railing during our 2010 cruise to the western Caribbean. It’s unusual because of the reflection of the dock from the side of the ship below the rail. We were docked, if I recall correctly, at Mahogany Bay at Roatan for that cruise stop’s really wonderful beach and shore facilities.
It took just a little Photoshop magic to contrast the color of the flower here against the grass at the Carleton Martello Tower during our visit to Saint John in New Brunswick in 2007. We did several cruises out of New York to Canada.
Here’s another shot of dark clouds over Manhattan during the start of our cruise to Canada aboard the Carnival Victory in 2005. I grabbed this one as we were leaving New York City.
Here’s the view from our stateroom balcony of the Mahogany Bay beach at Roatan at the Honduras stop on our Caribbean cruise in 2009. The beach facilities are really nice since they were designed for the cruise ships that stop.
Allison got this off hand shot of zip liners over paddlers at the Mahogany Bay stop on our Caribbean cruise aboard a Carnival ship in 2010.
Here’s a shot of a jet boat tour of the Reversing Falls at Saint John, New Brunswick, in Canada. We were on a cruise (flew to New York, caught a Broadway show and ballgame and then hopped the cruise) to Canada in 2005 when this photograph was taken. Click here for a Wiki description of the falls.
Here’s a beautiful sunset … or is it a sunrise … from the deck of the Carnival Triumph during our 2005 cruise to Canada out of New York City. With stops in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, the cruise was great for us Southwest Floridians with the cool weather in June (as well as a Broadway show and ballgame before leaving the dock). At first I believed it was a sunset, but looking closer there are not that many people on deck. Could it have been a sunrise as the ship returned to New York?
Here’s a twilight view of New York City as we left for a cruise to Canada aboard the Carnival Triumph in 2004.
Here’s a back-lit view of the Statue of Liberty from the balcony of our stateroom as we were leaving on a cruise to Canada out of New York City in 2005. You can see all the photos you want of the Statue of Liberty, but seeing it in person is much better.
During our cruise to Canada out of New York City in 2007, I used a friend’s fish-eye lens at times. I grabbed this really nice sunset photo (you can see a lifeboat in the bottom left area of the photo and a video screen glowing on the ship’s bridge in the upper left).
Here’s an OK photo of a sunrise or sunset – I can’t remember which – from a cruise we took in June 2007 from New York City to Canada. My original post reports that it’s a sunset, but I’m now thinking we were headed north and this was a sunrise. I used a friend’s fish-eye lens on my Nikon.
While visiting Peggy’s Cove during one of our northern cruises (we fly into New York to catch a ballgame and a Broadway show and then head out on the cruise), I grabbed this shot in 2005. Here’s a link to a ive webcam of the historic Peggy’s Cove lighthouse. We’ve hit Halifax in Nova Scotia and St. John’s in Newfoundland. During the Halifax stop we always travel to Peggy’s Cove to walk on the rocks and see the lighthouse.
Here’s a shot of at the City Market in St. John’s during a shore excursion from our Carnival cruise ship in 2007. Newfoundland was one stop on our cruise to Canada from New York City. We also hit Halifax in Nova Scotia.
As this backlit shot of a sailboat shows, you really have no poor views while on a cruise ship. I shot this one while we were on a cruise to Canada in 2005.
Here’s another view of the signature lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove tourist destination in Canada. We’ve done a northern cruise several times by flying into New York (ballgame and a Broadway show) and then the cruise to Canada. We’ve hit Halifax in Nova Scotia and St. John’s in Newfoundland. During the Halifax stop we always travel to Peggy’s Cove to walk on the rocks and see the lighthouse.
What’s this? The exhaust funnel (or smokestack) on our cruise liner the Carnival Victory when we went to Canada out of New York City in 2005. The photo is a different angle on something you see every day on the cruise.
I managed to catch a couple of birds in flight while walking the rocks at Peggy’s Cove in Canada. We were on a cruise to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland in 2005 when we visited the tourist spot. Being from South Florida, we’ve done that northern cruise several times by flying into New York (ballgame and a Broadway show) and then a cruise on to Canada.
I got this shot of a fishing boat from our Carnival cruise ship in June of 2007 at the Saint John (New Brunswick) stop on our cruise to Canada. Frankly, I don’t remember if we coming into or going out of port. We also stopped at Halifax in Nova Scotia.
You don’t usually expect to see fog in the morning on a cruise in June … unless you’re headed to Canada from New York. The exhaust funnel on our cruise liner the Carnival Victory is partially obscured in this photo I snapped. The folks on chaises had to get their own (the stacks at left had not been set up by crew members).
Here’s a shot I grabbed off the balcony of our stateroom during a 2008 cruise. The ship, Royal Caribbean’s “Freedom of the Seas” was the largest cruise ship when this photo was taken. The next year, according to Wiki, the Oasis-class ship made its debut for the company was is even larger than the “Freedom of the Seas.”
Here’s a shot from the private island beach during our Disney cruise during 2001 (wow, that many years ago). It was a great experience and an extension of the Disney entertainment empire.
Going out of the Port of Miami on a Carnival cruise ship in 2010, I grabbed this shot of the famous South Beach, which is north of Government Cut out to the Atlantic.
Here’s looking back at the bridge to Miami from our Carnival cruise ship in 2010, I grabbed this shot while waiting for our ship to head out through Government Cut to the Atlantic.
Clouds were rolling in at Miami when we left on our Carnival cruise ship in 2010, I grabbed this shot as our ship headed out through Government Cut to the Atlantic.
I grabbed this quick one of a buoy as we were going out of the Port of Miami on a Carnival cruise ship in 2010 as we headed out of Government Cut and into the Atlantic.
Here’s a shot of the pilot boat for our Carnival cruise ship in 2007 at the St. John’s (Newfoundland) stop on our cruise to Canada. We also hit Halifax in Nova Scotia.
Here’s another photo of the trademark lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove in Canada. Click here for a live webcam view from Peggy’s Cove.
It wasn’t a good late afternoon (note rain on window) as we left for a cruise to Canada aboard the Carnival Triumph. I believe the cruise was in 2003, but the digital record isn’t clear.
Passengers were certainly get a good look at the Statue of Liberty on our cruise to Canada aboard the Carnival Victory in 2005. I grabbed this one as we were leaving New York City.
Here’s a shot of one of the outside structures of electronics that helped run our cruise ship. I got the photo from the deck of the Carnival Triumph during our 2005 cruise to Canada out of New York City. With stops in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, the cruise was great for us Southwest Floridians with the cool weather in June (as well as a Broadway show and ballgame before leaving the dock).
I took a little different angle in this 2005 shot of the trademark lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove in Canada.
Mix in a cloudy sky and some rough water and the rocks at at Peggy’s Cove in Canada are even more beautiful. I got this shot when we were in Canada in 2005.
Here’s a regular shot of a flower I found in the grass at the Carleton Martello Tower during our visit to Saint John in New Brunswick in 2007. We visited while on a cruise to Canada out of New York City. Click here for the stylized image of the flower I posted earlier on my blog.
I got this shot of a fountain (the fast shutter speed of my camera caught the water like this) while strolling at a park in Saint John in New Brunswick during a shore excursion from our cruise to Canada in 2007.
Here’s a shot I got of the Carleton Martello Tower at Saint John in New Brunswick during a shore excursion from our cruise to Canada in 2007.
Here’s another shot I got of the Saint John City Market in New Brunswick during a shore excursion from our cruise in 2007. New Brunswick was one of the stops on our cruise to Canada from New York City. We also visited Halifax in Nova Scotia.
It looked like our Carnival cruise ship was being chased by both vessels and the weather in 2010 as we headed out of Government Cut and into the Atlantic. I grabbed this shot as we were going out of the Port of Miami.
Here’s one of the small boats that takes cruise ship passengers either ashore or on excursions. I got this one off our ship in 2010. It’s next to impossible to get a bad photograph on a cruise.
We could see mansions like this one as our Carnival cruise ship headed out along Government Cut and into the Atlantic at the Port of Miami in 2010.
People stop in the bus lane of the causeway that parallels Government Cut at the Port of Miami to wave to friends and family leaving on cruise ships. We don’t know these people, but they were energetic in their waving. I got this shot when we were on a cruise in the summer of 2010.
All you have to do is look to the causeway from your cruise ship going out of the Port of Miami to see neat cars. Here’s a Porsche 911 in a shot I got in the summer of 2010.
Here’s the view from our Carnival cruise ship as it reached the end of the channel of Government Cut and headed into the Atlantic. I grabbed this shot as we were going out of the Port of Miami.
All you have to do is look to the causeway from your cruise ship going out of the Port of Miami to see neat cars. Here’s a Porsche 911 in a shot I got in the summer of 2010.
People stop in the bus lane of the causeway that parallels Government Cut at the Port of Miami to wave to friends and family leaving on cruise ships. However, some people wave from their cars traveling on the causeway. I got this shot from the balcony of our stateroom in the summer of 2010.
This snorkeler (back in the day it was called “skin diving”) has the proper safety warning in the water: a diver down flag. I got it in 2010 as we headed out of the the Port of Miami on a cruise to the Caribbean (where the diving is much better than off the the Port of Miami).
I got this shot of a couple of police cruisers on the causeway that parallels Government Cut at the Port of Miami. Cruise ships are so big and the causeway so close that it’s easy for passengers in cars and the ships to wave. I got this shot from the balcony of our stateroom in the summer of 2010.
Here’s a shot of dark clouds moving in over the Miami skyline as we left in 2010 on a cruise. Ships use Government Cut to leave and later return to the Port of Miami.
A shot of a buoy as we left Miami on a cruise in 2010 shows the device’s solar panel to provide electricity for its light and marine sensors.
Ahoy, mateys! A pirate ship at Grand Cayman isn’t there for the captain to make a deposit in one of Georgetown’s banks. It’s for tourists. Of course. I got this shot during our cruise in the summer of 2010.
It’s not an uncommon sight across the islands of the Caribbean Sea to capture a scene like this: cruise ships at dock. The coastline here is certainly pedestrian and the ships at dock dwarf everything. I got this shot in 2010 and have absolutely no recollection which port of call we were at.
Just like in our hometown of Naples, there’s no shortage of mansions and boats in Miami – especially in the waterways parallel to the cruise ship passage out to the Atlantic Ocean via the Government Cut. This show is across the causeway as we left the Port of Miami in the summer of 2010.
The clouds were rolling in over the famous South Beach, which is north of Government Cut out to the Atlantic. We were on a cruise going out of the Port of Miami when I got this shot in 2010.
After getting into the Atlantic on our cruise in 2010, I got this shot of the Miami skyline.
Here’s yet another photo I got in the summer of 2010 of people stopped in the bus lane of the causeway that parallels Government Cut at the Port of Miami. They stop to wave to friends and family leaving on cruise ships.
I’m continuing some shots I got in the summer of 2010 as our cruise ship was going out parallel to the causeway along Government Cut at the Port of Miami. Here’s a shot showing an overcast sky with some sailboats in the sun.
During our family cruise in the summer of 2010, I got this shot. I recall it is a warship, but I cannot recall for sure what nation and what port. My best guesses – France and Grand Cayman.
I grabbed this photo of a tugboat during our New Brunswick stop on a cruise to Canada in 2007. Several times we have traveled to New York City (caught a ballgame and a Broadway show) and then went on a cruise to Canada. It was a nice break from our usual Caribbean vacation.
Here’s shot of the signature lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove in Canada.
Here’s a shot of our cruise ship in the distance during a shore excursion during our vacation to Canada in 2007. I believe we were at New Brunswick … no, Halifax, no …
Here’s yet another shot I got of the Saint John City Market in New Brunswick during a shore excursion from our cruise in 2007.
These folks waved to our cruise ship going out Government Cut leading away from the Port of Miami in 2010.
Here’s another shot where the rising sun’s rays make a nice picture during our stop at Nassau in the Bahamas on a cruise in 2008.
It was peaceful that summer morning in 2008 when I got this shot of the rising sun’s rays bathing this resort near our cruise ship docking stop at Nassau in the Bahamas.
Here’s another one of the morning sun on the harbor at Nassau in the Bahamas. I got this shot during our cruise in 2008.
I got this shot of the flag of the United States flying at a harbor stop during our 2008 cruise through the Bahamas and into the Caribbean. I cannot remember at which harbor I got the shot.
It can get crowded with cruise ships at ports in the Caribbean Sea during the height of summer cruising season. Our Carnival cruise ship was joined by a sister vessel (note the colorful stack) in the background as I got this shot of one of the shuttle boats. I believe this shot was while we were anchored for a stop in Belize – we didn’t get off the ship because the port of call wasn’t interesting.
Here’s another shot from our stateroom balcony at the Mahogany Bay beach at Roatan at the Honduras stop on our Caribbean cruise in 2010. The big catamaran is used for a water tour and paddle boarders and boaters can cruise under the bridge along the waterway behind the beach area.
Here’s another shot I grabbed off the balcony of our stateroom during a 2008 cruise. The ship, Royal Caribbean’s “Freedom of the Seas” was the largest cruise ship when this photo was taken. Click here for a rundown about the ship.
I got his shot from the balcony of our stateroom during a 2008 cruise. I have to say I don’t recall which port (it might be Nassau).
Here’s a shot looking toward Mahogany Bay at Roatan during our cruise stop at Honduras in 2010. The structure at the bottom right of the photo is a docking post for cruise ships. Mahogany Bay at Roatan has a really wonderful beach and shore facilities and we were on a cruise to the western Caribbean when I got the shot from our balcony.
This isn’t a very good photo from our cruise in 2008, but I do like some of the elements. Of course the focus of the photo is the birds on our balcony as seen through the cabin window. But you can also see a boat (not very well presented, but it’s there) and a mansion by the water through the glass of the door. Like I said … nice elements. Poor photo.
This photo from our cruise in 2008 shows how it is almost impossible to get a bad photo when you use the sun for effect.
Here’s another angle of a lighthouse I got during our cruise in 2008. The Paradise Island lighthouse is near the harbor at Nassau in the Bahamas.
I got this shot in 2005 as our Carnival cruise ship left New York City bound for Canada. It was a cloudy send-off as the ship passed the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum Complex (you can see the stern of the aircraft carrier).
I got this shot in the summer of 2005 as Stephen walked on the rocks at the ocean near the signature lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove in Canada. We did a northern cruise several times by flying into New York (ballgame and a Broadway show) and then the cruise to Canada. We’ve hit Halifax in Nova Scotia and St. John’s in Newfoundland. During the Halifax stop we always travel to Peggy’s Cove to walk on the rocks and see the lighthouse.
Clouds moved in over New York City in 2005 as our Carnival cruise ship left for Canada.
Here’s yet another photo of the trademark lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove in Canada. I got this one on our cruise to our northern neighbor in 2004. We did a cruise to Canada several times by flying into New York (ballgame and a Broadway show) and then hopped the ship. We’ve hit Halifax in Nova Scotia and St. John’s in Newfoundland. During the Halifax stop we always travel to Peggy’s Cove to walk on the rocks and see the lighthouse.
Here’s an interesting shot I got inside the Carnival Victory during a cruise from New York City to Canada in 2005. The low lighting with patches of bright lights makes for an interesting contrast in the image.
Due to a digital mess on one of my back-up drives, I can’t tell you where this building is … other than in Canada. It’s either Halifax, Nova Scotia or Saint John, New Brunswick. I like the photo because of the obvious age of the structure. I can say with some certainty that I took the photo in 2005 during our June cruise out of New York City to Canada.
Here’s another shot of the pilot boat for our Carnival cruise ship in 2007 at the Saint John (New Brunswick) stop on our cruise to Canada. We also stopped at Halifax in Nova Scotia.
Here’s another shot of the pilot boat the “Biscayne” as it traveled with our Carnival cruise ship as we headed out of Government Cut and into the Atlantic in June 2010. I grabbed this shot as we were going out of the Port of Miami.
Here’s a shot showing boats at anchor off Miami’s famous South Beach. There was a gray sky that day with storms coming in the west when I got this shot from our Carnival cruise ship coming out of Government Cut and into the Atlantic in June 2010.
It was a dark sky behind the ship that followed our Carnival cruise ship out of Government Cut and into the Atlantic in June 2010. I grabbed this shot as we were going out of the Port of Miami. BTW, the white line at the bottom of the photo is the wake of a boat having crossed the sea behind us.
Here’s a shot from 2010 from our cruise the western Caribbean. It shows a shuttle boat – sometimes called a tender – beside our cruise ship, the Carnival Liberty.
Here’s a shot from a historic cemetery in Canada that we visited while on a shore excursion from our cruise ship. Years ago, we did a northern cruise several times by flying into New York (ballgame and a Broadway show) and then a cruise to Canada. We’ve hit Halifax in Nova Scotia and St. John’s in Newfoundland. I’m unsure of which year’s cruise we were on when I got this shot.
The fog was a bit thick on the morning of July 17, 2004, as we were headed to Canada on a family cruise. We were on the Carnival Victory the morning after leaving New York and bound for two ports in Canada.
Here’s a look back at an auspicious start to a cruise out of New York City in June 2005. We were early on board and so there’s few vacationers topside. Also, it was a dreary afternoon as you can see by the clouds. We were off to Canada on a five-day cruise.
Ah, how the mundane finds its way in with the special. Here’s a photo of a commemorative scene carved into a rock in Canada. We were on our way to or from visiting the trademark lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove in Canada when I got this shot in the summer of 2004. Note how the hanging laundry is in the background. During the Halifax stop of our cruises to Canda, we always travel to Peggy’s Cove to walk on the rocks and see the lighthouse.
Here’s another view looking back: Tourists beginning a cruise to Canada get a look at New York City’s skyline up close. I got this shot in the summer of 2005 as we headed off on the cruise.
Here’s a photo from the summer of 2004 as our cruise ship left the West Side docks of New York City on our way to Canada. The city’s lights had come on in the early evening.
Threatening clouds didn’t deter many passengers on our cruise ship as it left New York City bound for Canada in June 2005.
Our children were just that – children – in June 2005 when we visited Peggy’s Cove in Canada. We were on a cruise to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland when we visited the tourist spot on June 21. The rocks are fun to clamber about and Stephen and Allison enjoyed getting too close to the sea.
Here’s another sunset photo I got through our stateroom window on a cruise to Canada in June 2005. We were on a cruise out of New York to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland when I got this shot on June 19.
We enjoyed our visits years ago to Peggy’s Cove in Canada. We were on a cruise to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland when we visited the tourist spot on several trips. I like the rocks there – and not just to climb on. The texture of the rocks contrasts well with the sky. I got this shot during our summer cruise in 2005.
Here’s another photo I got of a jet boat tour of the Reversing Falls at Saint John, New Brunswick, in Canada. We were on a cruise (flew to New York, caught a Broadway show and ballgame and then hopped the cruise) to Canada in June 2005 when this photograph was taken.
I pulled out a few old photos from our June 2007 cruise from New York City to Canada. Here’s a shot of from the stop at New Brunswick, which is one of Canada’s maritime provinces. We were stopping at Saint John when I got the shot.
