The interaction by characters with guests is wonderful at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Here’s one who was driving down Sunset Boulevard with her goldfish. She had fun with guests and showed them her goldfish. I got this shot Jan. 6, 2018, at Walt Disney World.

It’s easy to get “goofy” at Walt Disney World. Here’s Goofy interacting with guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Jan. 6, 2018.
I thought it was cold last weekend when we visited Walt Disney World, but if you’re at one of the parks this morning (Jan. 14, 2018) then the temperature just after sunrise will have been near freezing, according to forecasts! The photo you see here was taken Jan. 7 right after we arrived at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Jan. 13 and the Star Wars stormtroopers marched around Crossroads of the World. Everyone was bundled up, but not like they will be for Jan. 14. Ouch!
There’s a bunch of interaction with characters (many you don’t recognize) when you visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. Here’s a couple of characters puttering down Sunset Boulevard on Jan. 6, 2018. We certainly enjoy such “little” treats while we are at the parks.
Not all my photos from Walt Disney World are instantly recognizable as being at WDW. Here’s a nice shot of umbrellas. I don’t know if you can guess where they are, so I’ll tell you: They cover the tables across for Min and Bill’s Dockside Diner at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I got the shot Jan. 6, 2018.
We went value resort for the night of Jan. 6, 2018, at Walt Disney World. However, we found the shortest distance to a park from our room at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort was to go next-door to the All-Star Music Resort to catch a bus. We were on the outer perimeter of Movies and so it was physically closer. Here are the lighted letters of the resort’s name as we walked over that night.
Guests waiting for a resort watercraft can see the ferryboats headed back-and-forth to the Transportation and Ticket Center from the Magic Kingdom. We were headed to the Resort Monorail when I got this shot on May 20, 2017, during a weekend visit to Walt Disney World.
No, that’s not just an unusual use of a classic picture at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it’s an ad for a really nice restaurant: Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano. We’ve enjoyed it during our weekend visit to Walt Disney World and I got the shot on Jan. 6, 2018.
It will be a “crane game” at Walt Disney World for a long time to come. From construction on new hotel space to the huge addition of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the spindles in the sky won’t go away any time soon. I got this shot at the entrance to the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that’s set to open in 2019. I got Jan. 6, 2018.
It’s characters, characters … and more characters at all the parks in the realm of Walt Disney World. Here are Chip ‘’n’ Dale as they follow a cast member to their meet-and-greet spot near Grand Avenue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I got this shot Jan. 6, 2018, during a weekend visit.
It’s one of many shops at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Legends of Hollywood has the same art deco-themed architecture as other buildings. I got the photo Jan. 6, 2018, during our first visit to Walt Disney World for the new year.
I’m recovering from knee-replacement surgeries and needed a wheelchair on Jan. 6, 2018, when we visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Of course, you rent your wheelchair (stroller or scooter) at Oscar’s Super Service and here is a close-up of the front of the tow truck on display. I was waiting for my family to join me – I went through the “Guests With No Bags” entrance – when I got this photo. We were on a weekend visit Walt Disney World.
Star Wars stormtroopers march past Crossroads of the World at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Jan. 6, 2018. I was waiting at Oscar’s Super Service, where I rented a wheelchair (I’m recovering from knee-replacement surgery). We were at Walt Disney World for a quick overnight trip when I got the shot.
I had to ride in the backseat of our SUV on our recent trip to Walt Disney World because of knee surgery. So, on Jan. 7, 2018, I was able to shoot a little more close-up of the Mickey Mouse electrical tower that is an icon for the resort along Interstate 4.
For years we enjoyed a small café at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It was called, as this old journalist enjoyed, the Writer’s Stop. It was a quiet place even on the busiest days at Walt Disney World. However, progress means change and as Disney expanded its Star Wars universe at Studios, it said bye-bye to the Writer’s Stop. Here’s what it has been replaced with: BaseLine Tap House pub. This photo that I took Jan. 6, 2018, is the same view as an old one I took (and posting here) of the old Writer’s Stop. It is to the left of the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant. Sigh. Well, nothing ever stays the same forever.
Well, the Christmas decorations at Walt Disney World are down today, but when we visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios on Jan. 6, 2018, they were still up. Here’s the Christmas tree at Echo Lake from that day.
Yay! We’re back at Walt Disney World today! And to celebrate, here’s a photo Allison got this past November 2017 at Disneyland Paris. What would a Disney property be without Walt and Mickey Mouse? It wouldn’t be Disney! Here’s the Walt with Mickey statue from Disneyland Paris. We’ll see the one at the Magic Kingdom later today, Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 – our first visit of the new year.
Across the pond (that’s the Atlantic Ocean to those non-continentals) there’s a very iconic U.S. face and name for a park in Paris. Allison visited Disneyland Paris in France on Nov. 26, 2017, while traveling during her semester abroad in Europe.
Here’s a close-up look at the dragon at La Tanière du Dragon (The Dragon’s Den) at Disneyland Paris. Allison was at the park in France on Nov. 26, 2017, when she got this photo of the attraction within an attraction. The dragon is part of the park’s signature Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty Castle).
Here’s the entrance to the park at Disneyland Paris. Allison got this shot in November 2017 while studying in Europe for the fall semester of college.
Here’s the entrance to it’s a small world at Disneyland Paris. Just like its counterpart at Walt Disney World here in Florida, the attraction is spelled with all lower case letters. Allison was at the park in France on Nov. 26, 2017, when she got this photo.
Happy New Year! As 2018 opens, we are less than a week away from our first trip of the year to Walt Disney World. We’re doing a quick overnighter as Allison goes back to the University of Florida for her winter/spring term after a fall spent in Europe. She brought me back this pin from her visit to Disneyland Paris in November. I removed the magnet and used Velcro to attach it to my laptop. The photo is a reminder of our Disney visits in 2017 and the ones to come in the new year.
You know what this means! We received our MagicBands for our first trip to Walt Disney World in 2018! The bands arrived at our home in Naples, Fla., Dec. 8, 2017, and we’ll be using them in several weeks.
Allison has made it to Disneyland Paris! Yes, her study in Europe for the fall semester of 2017 has taken her to many places and now to Disneyland Paris. She got this shot of Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty Castle) on Nov. 26, 2017.
You’ll have to look close to figure this photo out. It shows the dragon at La Tanière du Dragon (The Dragon’s Den) at Disneyland Paris. Allison was at the park in France on Nov. 26, 2017, when she got this 5-second exposure photo of the attraction within an attraction. The dragon is part of the park’s signature Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty Castle).
Nothing tops fireworks at Walt Disney World. Even fireworks from a park when viewed from afar. Allison got this shot Dec. 15, 2015, at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, where people were watching the sky show from the beach. The fireworks in the distance were from the nightly show at Magic Kingdom.
I enjoy posting photos I’ve taken of the “Fire Dude” (as I call him) from our trips to Walt Disney World. He’s featured during the wonderful show, the Festival of the Lion King. I know what this looks like, but it’s not! The show is held at the Harambe Theater at the Animal Kingdom park. I got this shot Feb. 8, 2015.
We are definitely going to spend more time exploring Pandora – The World of Avatar. Here’s a shot I got during our first visit: A view during the Na’vi River Journey ride. We were on a weekend visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park at Walt Disney World when I got this shot on Aug. 26, 2017.
I’m dipping again into my digital vault for a photo from Walt Disney World. If you don’t like the Chewbacca character from “Star Wars,” then don’t order this dessert. Allison got it Dec. 15, 2017, during our visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It looks cool, but I’m not sure how to interpret how Chewy is observing being eaten!
Here’s the dragon in the Electrical Water Pageant during its nightly show on Dec. 15, 2015. Allison got the shot while at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort during a visit to Walt Disney World.
Here’s another in a series of photos I took of one of the fake fights during the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Previously, I’ve posted a sequence of shots showing how a fake punch looks real. Here’s another! I got this shot during a performance on May 20, 2017, during a weekend trip to Walt Disney World.
Faking fights has long been a staple of films. Here’s another of characters fighting in the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I got this shot during a performance on May 20, 2017, during a weekend trip to Walt Disney World.
Nighttime is always interesting from a photography point-of-view at Walt Disney World. From shadows and darkness to contrast and framing, the night makes WDW different each day and night. Here’s a nice nighttime shot of the entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I took the shot Dec. 15, 2015, as we were leaving the park.
If you are on Main Street, U.S.A. at the Magic Kingdom, you’ll see these: Balloons. I’m sure they sell them elsewhere, but we always photograph them on Main Street, U.S.A. Allison got this shot of a balloon vendor on Oct. 16, 2015, while visiting Walt Disney World.
Here’s another view of the cast members playing “Indy” and “Marion” during the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I got this shot during a performance on May 20, 2017, during a weekend trip to Walt Disney World.
You can find an interesting and photogenic view just about anywhere at Walt Disney World. Here’s a shot I got at Backlot Express, which is the counter service restaurant near the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Although, I’d say one of the light bulbs needs to be replaced! The photo was taken May 20, 2017.
Here’s another view of my takeoff on Spaceship Earth at EPCOT. I was taking the photo over the shoulders of riders in the seats in front of mine on Aug. 27, 2017, while we were at Walt Disney World for a long weekend.
As you learn about humankind’s history, you get to see the evolution of communication during your ride on Spaceship Earth at EPCOT. Here’s a shot from Aug. 27, 2017, that shows the iconic and legendary Edward R. Murrow making a radio broadcast. We were at Walt Disney World for a long weekend when I took the photo.
Riders on Living with the Land at EPCOT see edible plants growing in this watery environment. I got this shot on Aug. 27, 2017) while we were at Walt Disney World for a long weekend visit.
No one likes rain during their visit to Walt Disney World. However, it can reduce the size of some lines and cool you off during on sweltering summer days. Here’s the cloudy sky that greeted us as we arrived at our room at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort on Aug. 26, 2017.
Rain and clouds don’t dampen our excitement when we visit Walt Disney World. In fact, the clouds can be beautiful, if somewhat dreary. Here’s a shot I got at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park on Aug. 26, 2017. Rain and the clouds leave the scene with only a couple splotches of color.
I always enjoy the beauty of the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. You’ll get live music in the evening and it’s just a wonderful experience. We were at Walt Disney World on May 20, 2017, when I got the shot.
No surprise! Here’s a photo of a monorail train arriving at its station at Walt Disney World. I got the shot of the Resort Monorail on May 20, 2017, as it arrived to pick us up (and other guests) at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
Leaving! It’s the scene you never like to see at at Walt Disney World, even if it just to go back to your resort. I got this shot May 20, 2017, as we were leaving Disney’s Hollywood Studios on a tram. We don’t usually park in the main lot (we usually use transportation from the resort), but we arrived early that day.
Here’s a scene brought to you by rain: A sparse crowd entering a park at Walt Disney World. It was a rainy afternoon when we visited Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park on Aug. 26, 2017.
In dim lighting, you can make a nice photo that’s not exactly perfectly sharp. Here’s an example during our ride on Living with the Land at EPCOT. I got this shot March 3, 2017. We were back for the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival during this trip to Walt Disney World. Note the cell phone blur to the left.
We find ourselves in 2017 and approaching Christmas. Here’s a memory from Walt Disney World. It’s the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights and it no longer is featured at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It has given way to the expansion of the park for more room for Star Wars and other attractions. I got this shot Nov. 1, 2015, on the first night of the lights’ final season at the park.
I’m continuing my look back at the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights that is no longer on display at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Its former home has given way to the expansion of the park for more room for Star Wars and other attractions. I got this shot Nov. 1, 2015, on the first night of the lights’ final season at the park while at Walt Disney World.
With my ongoing look back at the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, you can see someone showing a photo on her phone. The light display no longer graces Disney’s Hollywood Studios each holiday season and its former home has given way to the expansion of the park for more room for Star Wars and other attractions. I got this shot Nov. 1, 2015, on the first night of the lights’ final season at the park while at Walt Disney World.
Today is Christmas Eve 2017 and here’s a Christmas tree you won’t see again. It’s part of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights and it no longer graces Disney’s Hollywood Studios each holiday season. Its former home has given way to the expansion of the park for more room for Star Wars and other attractions. I got this shot Nov. 1, 2015, on the first night of the lights’ final season at the park while at Walt Disney World.
Merry Christmas! Today is Christmas 2017 and here’s a Christmas view that no longer exists: It’s part of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights and it no longer graces Disney’s Hollywood Studios each holiday season. Its former home has given way to the expansion of the park for more room for Star Wars and other attractions. I got this shot Nov. 1, 2015, on the first night of the lights’ final season at the park while at Walt Disney World.
Here’s a shot of “The Beast” as he makes his rounds during dinnertime at Be Our Guest Restaurant at the Magic Kingdom. I got this shot March 4, 2017, while we were on a long weekend to Walt Disney World.
I’ll have to check out this area of Tomorrowland when we go back to the Magic Kingdom in January for our first visit to Walt Disney World in 2018. It’s a stage for entertainment in an area under constant renovation. I got this shot March 4, 2017, and it will be interesting to see the evolution.
I’ve posted many photos where darkness on a ride causes a nice blur in a photo. Here’s another from when we were on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at the “Hollywood Tower Hotel.” I got this one on the ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios while we visited Walt Disney World on March 6, 2017.
Every angle of every ride and just about every square inch of Walt Disney World gets photographed every day by guests. Here’s one getting a shot of the outside entrance (FastPass line) at The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror that features the “Hollywood Tower Hotel.” I got this one while we were at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on March 6, 2017.
One of my most-posted subjects of photos at Walt Disney World is of monorail trains. Sometimes in the photos, just like this one, you can’t tell if it’s coming or going – in this case, it’s headed away from my camera. I got the shot while walking at at EPCOT on Feb. 5, 2017.
OK, I admit … this is bad photo because of the glare of the morning sun. However, it shows everything you need to know about Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend: The traffic, traffic and runner controls and the runners. You can see runners here at the far right as they get ready to turn into the Disney’s Hollywood Studios portion of the 26.2-mile marathon. I got the shot as we left Walt Disney World on Jan. 7, 2018, after an overnight stay. The marathon was the centerpiece of the five-day event for WDW. BTW … the marathon wound its way through all four major parks.
Here’s a up-angle view at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that shows a beautiful sunny sky on Jan. 6, 2018. I was waiting at Oscar’s Super Service, where I rented a wheelchair (I’m recovering from knee-replacement surgery), when I got the shot. It was a cold, cold morning – about 40 degrees – when we arrived. We were at Walt Disney World for a quick overnight trip.
It has a sign saying “Pacific Electric” but this is the side view of the Trolley Car Café at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With the morning sun, the building’s architecture looks neat. I got the photo Jan. 6, 2018, during our first visit to Walt Disney World for the new year.
It used to be Streets of America, but now it’s Grand Avenue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Most of the old is gone and only this token building remains as Walt Disney World expands its Star Wars presence. I got this shot Jan. 6, 2018, during a weekend visit.
I don’t usually photograph a public facility, but when it’s “Gonzo’s Royal Flush” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, then I’ll do it once. Here’s a shot I got Jan. 6, 2018, at Walt Disney World.
We were waiting to get inside the theater to see Muppet*Vision 3-D when I got this shot on Jan. 6, 2018. We were first at Disney’s Hollywood Studios during our weekend visit to Walt Disney World.
Even on a cold, cold morning you have a beautiful view of palm trees on Commissary Lane at the ABC Commissary restaurant at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Although it would be much colder the next weekend, we were a little chilly when I got this shot on Jan. 6, 2018. during a weekend visit to Walt Disney World.
Walt Disney World equals kids and kids equal strollers. Here’s a shot I got Jan. 6, 2018, of the stroller parking at the character meet-and-greet near the Star Wars Launch Bay and across from Voyage of The Little Mermaid at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
There’s no end to the popularity of Star Wars and Walt Disney World is all-in on it. Here’s a shot of a display from Jan. 6, 2018, in the Star Wars Launch Bay. You won’t have to be satisfied with meet-and-greets, static displays, a stage show and some marching stormtroopers as a huge expansion is set to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2019 with Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away.
I needed a wheelchair on Jan. 6, 2018, for our visit to Walt Disney World because of knee-replacement surgery and got some nice shots looking up at the sun. Here’s one as we passed Voyage of The Little Mermaid after leaving the Star Wars Launch Bay at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Design details abound at Walt Disney World. Here’s a water tower at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that appears to be above several different attractions, depending on where you stand. It’s actually above Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano but this a view from near the “Royal Flush” facilities. I got the shot Jan. 6, 2018, during a quick trip to Walt Disney World.
Christmas and holiday decorations are gone for the past season now, but here’s Dinosaur Gertie with its hat and ornament at Dinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream of Extinction shop on Jan. 6, 2018 – the final weekend when you could have seen the decorations. We were at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the beginning of a weekend visit to Walt Disney World.
Just like other, more iconic sights across Walt Disney World, I also like to see and photograph the sign for 50’s Prime Time Café at . I got this shot of it on Jan. 6, 2018 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the beginning of a weekend visit to Walt Disney World.
Here’s a nice view of the guest in the tram seat ahead of me! I got this shot as we were being driven to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 20, 2017, during a rare trip to Walt Disney World where we parked in the big lot – we usually park at the resort and use bus transportation.
Here’s another view you’ll often see of security at Walt Disney World. I pass through the “guests without bags” entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and then wait on a bench for the rest of my party (my knees need the rest). As time passes, more and more guests must go through metal detectors at or going to the parks. I imagine that soon everyone will be scanned. I got this shot on May 20, 2017.
Flowers always appear to be in bloom across Walt Disney World. Here’s a shot I got near the Echo Lake Apartments at Disney’s Hollywood Studios when we visited on May 20, 2017. We were at Walt Disney World for a long weekend.
You’ll usually see this type of sunset on the fringe of the “Hub” at the Magic Kingdom. I got this photo on May 20, 2017, as we walked near The Plaza Restaurant just off Main Street, U.S.A. Crowds for the nighttime light and fireworks shows begin to settle in facing Cinderella Castle before the sun goes down each day at Walt Disney World.
