A dark blotch of clouds on the horizon east of our home here in Naples, Fla., made for a threatening early evening sky on May 7, 2019. We need the rain and a break from blazing heat! PS: This photo is only re-sized. It is exactly as taken with my iPhone.

The term “bird on a wire” is taken – mostly – from the Leonard Cohen song of the same name and a Mel Gibson-Goldie Hawn flick that took its name from the song. Well, here in Southwest Florida, I took a photo of a bird on a palm tree. I haven’t heard the song or watched the film, but I guarantee neither one is as beautiful as this bird on the palm tree silhouetted by the blazing sky from a setting sun as seen from our home here in Naples on July 30, 2019.
It’s happened before and it happened again on Aug. 6, 2019: I diverted from my usual route to work so that I could photograph a sunrise. Here’s the beautiful scene that make me change routes to work from our home here in Naples, Fla.
Here’s the wonderful sight that greeted me as I did an early evening errand on Aug. 4, 2019. The sunset must have been spectacular when viewed from the beach here in Naples, Fla., because this inland shot sure looks incredible!
I can’t identify this tree by name, but it is absolutely the most beautiful tree I’ve seen here in Naples, Fla., in years. The sun was at the perfect angle to showcase this tree on June 10, 2019, as I drove through the Lake Park neighborhood near downtown Naples. A few minutes research turned up that it most likely could be in the tabebuia family, but it might be anything from a peltophorum pterocarpum or even a cassia fistula (although that’s one unfortunately known as the “Golden Shower” tree, but, if this is one, then aptly monikered). While the tabebuia remains my favorite tree, this new one is total winner.
Nature has a way of showing life’s truths – and one is that beauty can be transitory. Here’s a photo today I took June 19, 2019, of a tree in the Lake Park subdivision of Naples, Fla. I previously posted a photo saying it is the most beautiful tree I’ve seen in years. Well, those blooms, while of amazing beauty, were not permanent. I’ll keep watch for the next blooming cycle.
Here’s a most Naples scene you can get: Folks on a supermarket run to Publix park their drop-top Porsche and Ferrari side-by-side. Really? If you can afford this Ferrari, you can afford a food lackey to go to the supermarket for you! Just joking! Here are the two really sweet rides that I photographed Aug. 9, 2019, near our home here in Southwest Florida. BTW … I like traditional Ferrari red, but the blue works. I believe this is a Pista Spider that goes for about $355,000. Damn! I sound like a hillbilly being impressed with a car costing under $1 million, but … damn!
A beautiful sunset can make your view while waiting for a red light a most enjoyable few moments. Here’s one example from our hometown of Naples, Fla. I got the shot on July 16, 2019, after having “chased” a beautiful sunset.
Wow! I just can’t step outside our home here in Naples, Fla., without looking up to see a beautiful cloud. I’ve “chased” cloud photos over the past week, but only need to walk to my car to go to work on July 24, 2019, to find this exceptional cloud.
A huge thunderstorm brewed up to the east of our hometown of Naples, Fla., on Sunday (July 28, 2019) and headed our way. I got this shot while running an errand in the afternoon. Pretty neat!
Although we’ve been having a lot of rainy weather and cloudy conditions throughout much of each day for nearly two weeks now, we got a sensational sunset yesterday – at least from where we live in Naples, Fla. I got this shot near our home and it was the evening of July 16, 2019.

We discovered this spiny orb-weaver spider and its large web on our patio of our home here in Naples, Fla., on the early evening of May 24, 2019. What an evil-looking spider! Pretty cool-looking, too! I was forced to “remove” it before anyone else in the house would go on the patio.

I posted yesterday that some sun this week would be a nice break from the rain of the past few days across Southwest Florida. Well, the rain continued as you can see from the window of my car as I returned home from work on June 17, 2019, here in Naples. The forecast says look for sunnier skies on Friday and through the coming weekend.
I’ve photographed and posted before an image of a bush growing out the top of this speed limit sign post in our neighborhood here in Naples, Fla. Over time, someone kills the plant – most likely with Roundup – and you don’t see anything growing for some time. Today, here’s proof that, like in the “Jurassic Park” movie franchise, the statement “nature finds a way” is proven true again. I got this shot June 22, 2019.

Here’s a nice example of rain and sun here in Southwest Florida. A downpour drenched our patio at our home in Naples, but five minutes later, the sun was out. This isn’t an unusual phenomenon for South Florida, but it is neat to see. Here are the two photos from June 26, 2019, that I cropped together to show the contrast.

Earlier this week I posted photos of new blooms on the patio at our home here in Naples, Fla., and then some beautiful hibiscus blooms pop up! I got this shot on June 12, 2019.

I already Tweeted that I’d have more of the “red sky at morning” photos to post … and here is one I got as I headed to work on April 9, 2019. Wow. Sensational sunrises these days!
If you ever wanted to see how to block two disabled parking spaces at one time, just check out this FedEx truck. I got this shot on April 12, 2019, here in Naples, Fla. I understand the difficult time the driver has in making a delivery, but blocking two disabled parking spaces? Go block five spots at the back of the lot, please. Oh, and this is a medical office building where such parking spaces are at a premium.
It was almost like the weekend had begun when I saw this fiery sunset made better by the iconic silhouette of the steeple at the Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church on Thursday evening here in Naples, Fla., on April 25, 2019. Wow, it would be a wonderful start to a weekend if it looks this good on a Friday!
Here is how my favorite Tabebuia tree looked on March 17, 2019, here in Naples, Fla. It is right around the corner from our home and used to have a huge canopy with an explosion of color this time of year. However, Hurricane Irma smashed it in September 2017 and it is coming back. Although you’ll see other colors for Tabebuia blooms, the one I enjoy most is the one with yellow ones (or, officially “gold” as in this Tabebuia chrysotricha).
Here’s a line of road construction vehicles headed into a North Naples, Fla., neighborhood to resurface a road at night. I got this shot in the early evening of April 15, 2019. The roadwork is on Orange Blossom Drive and it has several upscale gated communities. So, I wonder how the nighttime work went over for those residents?
I already Tweeted that I’d have more of the “red sky at morning” photos to post … and here is one I got of the sunrise over a neighbor’s house on April 9, 2019. Wow. Sensational sunrises these days!
We’ve had so many “red sky at morning” days here in Naples, Fla., that I hope the boating community isn’t reeling! Here is one view of the sunrise on April 7, 2019.

It’s the time of year for Tabebuia (with the yellow-gold color) to be in bloom and our nearby Collier County Public Library – Headquarters branch has one in its courtyard. Here is a photo of the beauty of the courtyard, shot from outside it. I took this photo on March 17, 2019.
It’s the time of year for blooms and near to our home here in Naples, Fla., the Collier County Public Library – Headquarters branch has many in its courtyard, I took this photo on March 17, 2019, of an archway with bougainvillea.
Wow! The views of morning here in Southwest Florida just keep rolling through! And, since they’re so beautiful, I just have to photograph and then post a photo of them. Here’s the morning from April 20, 2019, here in Naples.
Here’s a sight that tells Southwest Florida residents that the seasonal visitors are packing up and heading home: A car hauler! Whenever the car haulers arrive, it signals either the end of or the beginning of the winter “tourist” season here in Naples. I got this shot near our home on April 9, 2019. A vehicle was being loaded at the entrance to the nearby Pelican Marsh community.
A little “red sky at night” is both a sailor’s delight and a delight to see. Here’s a touch of “red” sky over Naples, Fla., on the evening of April 1, 2019.
I always enjoy seeing the Stars and Stripes flying! Here’s a view of one U.S. flag flying proudly outside a community here in Naples, Fla. I got this shot April 2, 2019, as I drove home from work. I hope folks don’t take too casually what this flag symbolizes.
OK, so you might at first believe this is a boring photo. However, take a moment to reconsider. Yes, nothing is happening … but it is a beautiful cloud and the setting sun’s rays are very illuminating on my neighbors’ homes here in Naples, Fla. I got this shot on April 6, 2019.
I’m not a great gardener – in fact, plants plead “not me, not me” when I browse them at Lowe’s. However, I can on occasion grow an orchid. Here’s a very special bloom on our patio on April 4, 2019. Our son and his girlfriend gave me this as a present and now it is blooming! Whew! A wonderful sight here in Naples, Fla.
It’s a nice time of year for blooms on the plants on our patio here in Naples, Fla. This photo above a special orchid that has several blooms now. I got this shot on April 11, 2019.

Here is an outstanding start to a weekend! It was Saturday, April 13, 2019, after sunrise when I got this shot while headed out to run errands here in Naples, Fla.

It was a beautiful sunrise on Saturday, April 13, 2019, here in Naples, Fla. Just filling up offered a wonderful start to the day and weekend.
Here’s one of the bigger trucks of the North Collier Fire Control & Rescue District on a busy roadway in North Naples, Fla., on April 16, 2019. Well, it is usually busy, but for some reason – I don’t know why they were on the highway as this photo was taken as they were ready to leave – had traffic backed up. Always a good job by the districts emergency teams.
I’ll have to say that April 22, 2019, here in Naples, Fla., was a “Ferris Bueller” kind of day. A perfect sky punctuated with a few fluffy clouds. I got this shot mid-day as I took a break from work. It would have been great to just take the rest of the day off, right Ferris?
I just love to see and photograph the beautiful blooms of our Desert Rose plants on our patio here at our home in Naples, Fla. Our Desert Roses are in bloom right now and here’s a wonderful specimen from the smallest of our Desert Rose plants. I took the photo on April 17, 2019. Oh, and, in the background, that’s some of the orchids growing on the patio, too.
It’s that time of the year when the angle of the sunrise is blinding in my mirrors for part of my drive to work here in Naples, Fla. Here’s the shot I got with my iPhone while stopped at a traffic signal while facing west on April 24, 2019. The sunrise caught both mirrors.
I’ve been posting photos of blooms on our patio from a Desert Rose to a special orchid. However, the wonderful experience this weekend is the fragrance of the gardenias in bloom outside our pool cage at our home here in Naples, Fla. Here’s a shot from April 26, 2019, of a couple of the beautiful blooms.
Might as well just keep posting the same sunrise over and over. Nah! But here’s another of our ongoing beautiful mornings here in Southwest Florida. I got this shot of the sunrise on April 28, 2019, near our home here in Naples.
I was driving home from the driving range on April 29, 2019, when I photographed this nice sunset contrasted against a storm cloud. The shot was taken near our home in Naples.
I was driving home from the driving range on April 29, 2019, when I saw a rainbow. It’s not a great rainbow, but any rainbow is a treat to view. The rainbow shot was taken in Bonita Springs here in Southwest Florida.
I make a point of photographing cranes at Walt Disney World, so I’m breaking away today to show cranes on the construction site of Arthrex here in Naples, Fla. I got the shot on April 29, 2019, as I went to the post office closest to our home.
A trip at dusk to the Collier County Public Library – Headquarters branch near our home here in Naples, Fla., allowed me to shoot three nice (well, OK) photos. Here is a nice one of a cloud as I drove away from the library. I got this shot May 1, 2019, after a quick stop at the library.
I’ve posted many photos of the mission-style architecture of the Collier County Public Library – Headquarters branch and here is a closer look at the mission bell from below and the tower that houses it. I got these shots on April 29, 2019, here in Naples, Fla.

I was back at the car wash on May 6, 2019, near our home here in Naples, Fla. I enjoy photographing the movement of the overhead brush and the colors in the cleaning fluid.

The dark clouds of a late-afternoon thunderstorm here in Naples, Fla., make for a nice backdrop for the American flag flying at the Collier County Public Library – Headquarters branch and the much bigger one across the street on a cell tower. I got this shot at the library on May 9, 2019.

Although the official start of summer is more than a month away, we’re starting to see the summer pattern of rain here in Southwest Florida. Here’s a shot – I’ve posted similar ones before – of rain pouring through the gutter at the office complex where I work in Naples, Fla. I took it with my iPhone on May 10, 2019.
I hope this weekend starts off as nice as this sunrise from May 8, 2019. I got the shot as I left for work here in Naples, Fla.
Debbie and I had a very special dinner with family we haven’t seen in ages. I got this shot of the clouds off the beach of Marco Island, Fla. We enjoyed the evening with family on May 13, 2019.
Here is a view of the sunset here in Naples, Fla., on May 20, 2019. I was coming home from an errand when I got them.

I photographed a nice sunset on May 20, 2019, near our home here in Naples, Fla. However, I did also get a neat shot of a storm cloud that appears as if it is sitting just about on top of our neighbor’s house. It’s an interesting image – in my opinion, anyway.
Recently I posted a photo of a Great Egret perched on a traffic signal. Today, I’m posting a shot of one that landed in our yard on May 26, 2019, and strutted past our patio’s screen door. It was searching for morsels, but took flight as I tried to get in position for a better photo.
We’ve needed rain here in Southwest Florida and we received a little on Saturday, June 1, 2019 (the official star of the hurricane season). I photographed the morning from a sunrise peeking through the clouds to a thunder cloud to the rainstorm on our patio here in Naples.

I never tire of seeing the architecture of the Collier County Public Library – Headquarters branch. Since it is mission-style with bell and tower, arches are part of the building. Here, the afternoon sun creates interesting shadows on May 30, 2019.
I am officially spoiled with being able to enjoy magnificent sunrises here in Naples, Fla. – especially, it appears, on weekends. I got this shot on Saturday, June 8, 2019, while running errands. How can you not enjoy a morning such as this?

I had to laugh when I saw this small lizard “chilling out” in the yogurt cooler at my local Publix on June 9, 2019. I have friends who really don’t like even the sight of a lizard, much less one on the yogurt aisle. I was doing a typical Sunday morning visit to the store (for the record, #635 – Pelican Strand) near our home in Naples, Fla., when I spied the odd misfortune of the creature.

We got some much needed rain this past weekend in Southwest Florida. Here are leftover raindrops on the window of my car as I ran an early errand on Sunday morning, June 16, 2019, near our home here in Naples.
After a rainy start to the week, it appears we’re going to see some better weather. We had a nice sunset here in Naples, Fla., yesterday (Tuesday, June 18, 2019) after a rainy day.

It must be my week for finding errors. I just posted about how the IFC network doesn’t know how to use apostrophes or quote marks and, now I find that the road department here in Collier County – or it might be a project by the City of Naples – doesn’t even know the correct designation for its signature highway. One sign on Goodlette-Frank Road that southbound driver can see notes access via “SR 41.” No! Wrong! It is U.S. 41. It is also State Road 45. It is also called the Tamiami Trail and is Naples’ historic highway. But it NEVER has been “SR 41.” Ah well, at least northbound drivers get the correct designation of U.S. 41. I got this shot on June 21, 2019.
I never tire of the architecture of the Collier County Public Library – Headquarters branch here in Naples, Fla. The branch is close to our home and a visual treat each time I visit. Here’s a look at the fountain in the courtyard in the afternoon sun on June 22, 2019.
Technology is great! Here’s the app for our pool system. While the pool’s water is approaching spa-territory at 93 and the heater wouldn’t have to work at all to get it to 100. More interestingly, the heat index shows that it was 101 at our home in Naples, Fla., after 4 p.m. on June 27, 2019. That’s a warm one, folks!
I spotted this rainbow on June 27, 2019, while I was at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library near our home in Naples, Fla. I then “followed the rainbow” to get other photos. Well, these are the two best and you just can’t beat seeing a rainbow created by the rays of a day’s setting sun.

I know there’s a popular song named “Blue Skies” and other songs with “Blue” in the title (“Blue Suede Shoes” and “Blue Velvet” to name just two). So, if I had to name the Saturday morning that I took photos of a “Blue Sunrise,” I’d have to say that it would make a good song name. Of course, everyone knows the “red sky at morning” saying, but I’m not aware of any “Blue Sunrise” sayings or songs. I took the photos in our hometown of Naples, Fla., on June 29, 2019.

In trying to choose a photo for today’s blog, I had to post this nice sunset photo from yesterday (July 1, 2019). I was at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library and couldn’t resist the opportunity with the sky looking so great. So, here is today’s Naples blog photo and I took it here in Naples, Fla.
I know I don’t have to remind you, but clouds are interesting – especially as subjects of photographs. Here is a photo that I took recently of beautiful clouds. This one is of a large cloud to the east of our home here in Naples, Fla., on June 30, 2019, and it was part of a coming afternoon thunderstorm.
I know I don’t have to remind you, but clouds are interesting – especially as subjects of photographs. Here is one of two photos that I took recently of beautiful clouds. This one was taken June 27, 2019, as I returned home from work and realized just how beautiful the sky was at that intersection.
I’ve posted before about how an afternoon thunderstorm here in Southwest Florida can look like the film “Independence Day” as the alien spacecrafts approach cities. Well, here’s my latest example. I was on an errand near our home in Naples, Fla., when I got this shot of the arrival of the storm.

Rain, rain … we really want you to go away here in Southwest Florida – at least for a little time. We’ve had miserable weather by our standards for too long here at the beginning of official summer. So, you can see the rain on my car’s driver-side window as I waited at a traffic signal here in Naples, Fla., on July 11, 2019. I took the photo as I drove to work, but the day got a little better … but only marginally. We’re looking for a better weekend.
The sun’s peeking out a bit more here in Southwest Florida, but we’re still … well, cloud heavy. Here’s a nice shot I got yesterday evening – Monday, July 15, 2019 – during an early evening visit to the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library. You got clouds, but there’s a little of the blue sky, too!
A shifting of colors and clouds made for a beautiful evening on July 17, 2019, here in Naples, Fla. I was running an early evening errand when I got this shot of clouds. All are views near our home and this photo could never capture the true beauty of the evening.

A beautiful sunset can make your view while waiting for a red light a most enjoyable few moments. Here’s one example from our hometown of Naples, Fla. I got the shot on July 16, 2019, after having “chased” a beautiful sunset.
I had an errand to run and as I was stopped for this red light on July 21, 2019, I could see the massive thunderstorm moving into the area near our home in Naples, Fla. We’ve had a lot of rain and we got a lot more that late afternoon and evening.
I’m taking too many photos of clouds not to include multiple images in one blog post. So, here’s a view of Saturday, July 27, 2019, here in Naples, Fla., from near dawn – that’s a light post, not the moon – to the evening’s beautiful clouds either reflecting the sun’s setting rays or exhibiting a bright white! Here’s a setting sun shot.

I had another three-cloud late afternoon-evening on July 25, 2019, here in Naples, Fla. Our sunsets, illuminated clouds and storm clouds have been nothing short of visually spectacular.

A huge thunderstorm brewed up to the east of our hometown of Naples, Fla., on Sunday (July 28, 2019) and headed our way. I got this shot while running an errand in the afternoon. Pretty neat!

Sundays mean an afternoon visit to the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library near our home here in Naples, Fla. It also usually means an opportunity to get a nice photo for my blog. Well, here’s the latest from July 28, 2019: The U.S. and MIA flags flying with the afternoon sun on them and the effect of contrast with the background of clouds. Oh, there’s another U.S. flag in the background (on a cell tower) and the “bend” in the flagpole at the library is an optical illusion from the wide camera angle.
A rainbow, a puffy cloud and the setting sun’s rays are three views of the late afternoon and early evening of July 30, 2019, here in Southwest Florida. I went to the driving range in the late afternoon and got the shot of the rainbow and puffy cloud in Bonita Springs. I got the shot of the setting sun’s rays near our home here in Naples, Fla.

This is the wide-angle shot giving context.
I’m posting this photo of a cloud a few days late because I like it! I got the shot on July 21, 2019, near our home here in Naples, Fla. I’ve been shooting a lot of sky photos recently because of thunderstorms and the neat formations of clouds they precede, succeed or make recede!
I’m posting this photo of the sunrise on Aug. 16, 2019, at our home here in Naples, Fla., because of its beauty. It was a great way to start my Friday and there’s hope that the weekend that is so new as this item is posted, starts off just as well.
