Today, Aug. 23, 2025, is national Cuban Sandwich Day! Yes, there is an annual celebration of the Cuban sandwich and it is well-received. The origin of the sandwich is credited to immigrants from Cuba to Tampa and Key West much earlier than the 1960s. So, in celebration of the Cuban sandwich, which occurs each year on Aug. 23, I got this sandwich today from McAlister’s Deli. I’d enjoy be back in Little Havana in the 1970s (I was born in Miami). So, a salute to Cuban Sandwich Day! I got this shot at our home here in Naples, Fla., on Aug. 23, 2025.
Today, (Thursday) Sept. 11 of 2025 is Patriot Day in the United States of America. The day is to remember the victims of terrorism on Sept. 11, 2001, when Arab terrorists sponsored by Osama bin Laden attacked the U.S. through the hijacking of airliners and crashing them into the Twin Towers of New York City, the Pentagon and another aircraft that didn’t make its target and crash-landed in a Pennsylvania field. Each Patriot Day, U.S. flags are ordered flown at half-staff (half-mast on U.S. vessels at sea) by the current president. Here’s a shot showing the U.S. flag at half-staff at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library. I got the shot this morning (Sept. 11, 2025) here in Naples, Fla.
Today (Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025) is the perfect day for a sausage pizza! Not only is college football in full swing, but every Oct. 11 is national Sausage Pizza Day! I got this sausage pizza delivered just after the start of the noon games and got the shot in the kitchen of our home here in Naples, Fla.
Here’s a nice accoutrement to cones in a school zone: A flashing light donut! Drivers have enough trouble slowing down in school zones (yes, I mean you!) and this helps improve visibility. I got this shot with my iPhone while stopped at a red light in front of Pelican Marsh Elementary yesterday (Oct. 29, 2025) near our home here in Naples, Fla. Please take caution and slow down in school zones!
Crossed contrails and a blazing sun? That’s a photograph! I enjoy photographing and posting images of contrails on my blog. I spotted this nice sight while running an errand yesterday (Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025) near our home in Naples, Fla. You don’t often see crossed contrails unless you live near an U.S. Air Force base. Contrails aren’t something to see every day over our neighborhood.
Anyone who has spent time in Florida knows the weather can change in almost an instant. Here are two scenes from yesterday (Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025 – sorry I’m late in posting) that show about the difference a half-hour can make. The first (top) is as I left our home here in Naples at 6:58 a.m. and the other (bottom) is from 7:35 a.m. Those clouds really moved in quickly!
National Dice Day rolls up every December 4! So, do like I did this morning (Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025) and find a few dice and play with them for a moment. The dice I found at our home here in Naples, Fla., are from old Monopoly games and Dungeons & Dragons sets. According to online sources, dice have been around for over 5,000 years and are popular worldwide. I got this shot this morning after looking at my calendar.
One question at the holiday season is whether or not the film “Die Hard” can be classified as as a “Christmas” movie. Well, it is set at Christmas time and there’s a Santa joke about a machinegun, but it is a split decision. Well, I now classify the film as a Christmas movie and this season received a great early present: An Advent Calendar themed as the “Nakatomi” building and “Hans” falling is the countdown token! I got both these shots on Dec. 15, 2025, after receiving the gift at our home here in Naples, Fla.
Construction speeds along at an impressive rate here in the Naples, Fla., community and the biggest sight right now even in “quaint” areas is a crane. For years I posted photos of “crane games” at Walt Disney World and it has now morphed to the “Cranes of Collier County.” I got this shot of a crane at a construction site in Old Naples yesterday (Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025) as I drove in the region. The building is part of the tony Third Street shopping area that’s part of the city’s historic district.
I try not to be a braggart, but I cannot help but let everyone know it’s enjoyable to be in Southwest Florida today. It’s Friday (Feb. 20, 2025) and I’m not on a job; it’s sunny, 70 degrees; and I grilled lunch by our pool on our patio! Again, if you are not so fortunate to have such a wonderful Friday, then I hope things are better on the coming weekend! I got this shot with my iPhone at our home here in Naples.
I’ve already enjoyed a triple-treat on this Sunday morning of Feb. 2025: a beautiful sunrise, a contrail and a visit to my favorite Publix! Yes, it’s already been quite a morning. I ran an early errand to the supermarket and driving back home saw the contrail set against the sky of the sunrise! All-in-all, a great Sunday!
I’m a few days late on posting this image, but I did want to post it … so, here it is! I’m headlining this post as “fire in the sky” and these sprays of clouds certainly reflect a bit of “fire in the sky.” I got these shots near sunset earlier this week on Jan. 28, 2025, while I was driving near our home here in Naples, Fla. It’s just that I wanted to share the image.
It’s that time of the year when the morning commute time collides with the already risen sun being out of position to be blocked by your vehicle’s windshield shade! Here’s my view this morning (Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025) as I drove near our home here in Naples, Fla. I was stopped at a red light when the sun kept creeping in over the top of my rear-view mirror!
Take a look at the top center of this photo. You can see a sliver of the moon during this morning’s sunrise. Today (Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025), we are in a “Waning Crescent” phase of the moon. Here’s an explanation from moongiant.com … “The Moon’s current phase for today and tonight is a Waning Crescent phase. This phase is best viewed just before the sunrise in the western sky. In this phase the Moon’s illumination is growing smaller each day until the New Moon. During this part of the Moon cycle, the Moon is getting closer to the Sun as viewed from Earth and the night side of the Moon is facing the Earth with only a small edge of the Moon being illuminated. It can also be a great time to see the features of the Moon’s surface. Along the edge where the illuminated portion meets the dark side, the craters and mountains cast long shadows making them easier to observe with a telescope or binoculars.” I got this shot at our home here in Naples, Fla.
Because of the beautiful Saturday morning yesterday (Jan. 18, 2025), I decided to get this shot of the fountain in the courtyard of the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library. I’ve photographed the courtyard many times before, but the library branch and its mission-style architecture is one of favorite subjects to capture in an image. The courtyard is always peaceful with its small canopy of trees and the central fountain. I got this shot when I stopped by the library branch to pick up a music CD.

I always enjoy photographing a cloud or a spread of clouds and there was a magnificent front of clouds this morning (Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025) that was south of us here in Naples, Fla. We received some rain yesterday, but none is forecast for today … yet, this ominous band of clouds greeted early risers across Southwest Florida. I’m posting three photos: this is the third with the sunrise breaking through at the tip of the clouds.
You should find all U.S. flags flying at half-staff today in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, who died at 100 on Dec. 29, 2024. Here is the flag at half-staff this morning at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library here in Naples, Fla. There is a protocol for the “official” flying of U.S. flags … and it begins with a presidential decree. President Joe Biden put the current one into effect on the date of former President Carter’s death and flags will be flown at half-staff through Jan. 28, 2025, to honor him. Remember, too, that traditionally, half-staff is for land-based flagpoles, while half-mast is aboard U.S.-chartered ships.
Today is Christmas Eve 2024 and that meant our traditional Christmas Eve dinner at a Japanese steakhouse! The other tradition is for me to photograph the fire display by the chef and here are three fire scenes and some steam at our dinner table tonight (Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2024). Our original Japanese steakhouse was called DaRuMa here in Naples, Fla., but it was torn down for re-development of its property near the beach. However, DaRuMa has a sister eatery in Fort Myers and that’s where we had tonight’s dinner! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
The view of my oldest artifact from my years at UF, a long-past “Late Show” mug, a Walt Disney World Magic Band and an Apple AirPod are back next to my computer(s) at our home here in Naples, Fla. I put the AirPod in our vehicle for a recent out-of-state trip, but it is now home again. My hope for the new year of 2025 is to get a desk. In some re-decoration of our home here in Naples, Fla., caused the removal of the only desk in our home … in hindsight, a big, big mistake. I got this shot on Dec. 16, 2024.
In another in the long line of nearly-forgotten history along with cursive writing is the Dewey Decimal System of cataloging books at libraries. Today (Tuesday, Dec, 10, 2024) is Dewey Decimal Day and, according to one website, it “honors Melvil Dewey and the library classification system he created to efficiently maintain our libraries’ inventory of books.” You can see the numbers in the stacks at the library as you pass them to go get DVDs, Blu-ray disks and music on CD, but it is still there! I got this shot today at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library here in North Naples, Fla.
It has been dry in our area of North Naples, Fla., for too long! Even after brush-by from a hurricane, we’ve gotten very little precipitation. So, I began to build hope when seeing these clouds late this afternoon … but I’m sure nothing will come of them! I got this shot Dec. 6, 2024, as I ran an errand near our home.
It was only seven years ago that I posted a photo of the new fleet of shopping carts at our local Publix (at the Strand, in Naples, Fla.). Well, even shopping carts get an upgrade and today you can see the latest model of shopping cart – it is a little smaller than previous carts, but it is more maneuverable. The carts are also made of black or gunmetal color and not the supermarket standard of silver. Of course, being new, the carts are smoother through the store. It’s kinda sad when your day is made by using the latest model of shopping cart at a supermarket – but, I enjoyed it all the same.
We started with a beautiful sunrise on this first day of 2024 here in Naples, Fla., and then had a couple of nice steaks for the first dinner of 2024! Here’s a shot of the two nice slabs of beef on the grill – sorry, I have a gas grill and I’m no pro at grilling to use a smoker or charcoal. Here’s again wishing everyone a happy, prosperous new year of 2024. Of course, the grill in the photo is on the patio of our home.
With 2023 coming to a close, this could be my final posting of a photo of a contrail. I truly enjoy seeing, photographing and then posting photos of contrails. I got this shot today (Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023) near our home here in Naples, Fla., as I drove to the driving range for a little practice of golf.
Dark clouds bring rain and we need it here in Southwest Florida. I was on fan afternoon errand near our home in Naples, Fla., when I got this shot of dark storm clouds moving in over the area today (Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023). We had rain later and that’s been a good experience for our lawn!
Unfortunately, these rose blooms are a few days past their prime, but our blooms from the single Mister Lincoln rose at our home here in Naples, Fla., look great even a day or two past their prime. I got this shot in our kitchen after cutting the blooms on the rose bush that has been in place for years.
I didn’t get a chance to post this photo of a nice cloud spread from yesterday (Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023). I was running an early morning errand near our home here in Naples, Fla., when I snapped this shot with my iPhone – the road was empty and I stopped to get it. Just like contrails, a beautiful cloud spread will always catch my attention.
It’s no surprise that any commercial process can have a flaw, such as you see here in this package of Johnsonville breakfast sausage patties. Two are missing. The issue isn’t that Johnsonville isn’t perfect, but that the “shopper” at Walmart that picked this up for me just wasn’t looking at what he or she was doing. I understand, too, that people are human and make mistakes, but … c’mon … you gotta see this one. I did a pick-up order at a Walmart here in Naples, Fla., last night (Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023) and took this photo after opening the bags at home. BTW … Walmart gave an immediate refund via the internet.
What a totally glorious day here in Southwest Florida! Especially if you get off work early to enjoy it as I did today (Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023)! Here’s a shot of the wonderfully sunny afternoon (no clouds in the sky) with the temperature at 67 degrees at 1:50 p.m. from the patio of our home here in North Naples. It was time to take a moment just to enjoy the peace and quiet and beautiful sunshine and cool temperature.
No gift card needed for this tea canister! I received an Amazon gift card as a present at Christmas and thought, “What about a tea canister?” I’ve been keeping my loose tea in the original container as it comes from my favorite tea distributor (the Holy Mountain Trading Company), but I thought a nice decorative container would be a nice gift to myself. DOH! I had previously purchased tea containers from Holy Mountain, but they were put away. Well, out this one came today (I have the day off from work) and I didn’t need to use my Amazon balance! I got this shot at our home here in Naples, Fla., today (Dec. 26, 2023).
I’ve posted photos before of the little “lake” (water retention area with a spritzer) that is just to the east of the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library, but never with a wading bird in the frame. I was driving past the branch library today (Friday, Dec. 29, 2023) when I noticed the bird and decided to stop and take this photograph.
I have an unexpected day off today and here’s my second cup of tea for the day: It’s my favorite Gold Silk Black tea with lemon. I forgot to photograph my first, which has been in recent months Irish Breakfast tea. Both are sold through my favorite tea seller: The Holy Mountain Trading Company of San Francisco. Ah, it’s going to be a wonderful day today (Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023) here in Naples, Fla., and I took this photo there at our home.
Why did the turtle cross the road? Well, for this one, it had to be that the road was pretty damn hot in the direct sun of Naples here in Southwest Florida. The turtle you see here is the Florida softshell turtle and can be found … just about everywhere in Florida. I got this shot today (Wednesday, May 3, 2023) while I was home on a lunch break from work. I’m sure all turned out well for Mr. Turtle since there wasn’t a carcass smooshed into the roadway when I arrived home.
You simply cannot beat Southwest Florida in May … and I have proof in two photos. I returned home early from work here in Naples and managed to grill some chicken and shrimp as well as enjoying our pool! Today is May 1, 2023, and we’re a month away from the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season, so it’s easy to enjoy the pool and the grill! If anyone can beat this today … well, let me know where you are and I’ll check it out!
Our most discriminating member of the family has chosen that 85 degrees is the lowest temperature that our pool’s water should be at the time of swimming. I disagree, but 85 degrees is the standard for most of our house. The pool, which is heated but we don’t use the heater at all except for the spa, finally reached 85 degrees a couple of days ago. You can see from today’s readout on my phone that it’s still at 85 in the middle of the afternoon. I got this shot off my iPhone here in Naples, Fla., as I went to take a dip on April 26, 2023.
It was a year ago that I last posted a photo taken at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library that featured shadows of the latticework above the sidewalk in front of the library branch. Well, today (Saturday, April 8, 2023) I found a different angle of the same latticework from which to shoot a photo of its shadows.
Helpful folks? I have absolutely no clue as to what happened to the man on this sidewalk as an ambulance and emergency units arrived. You can see a bicycle that might belong to him, but I’m not sure. I was driving home from work here in Naples, Fla., today (Wednesday, April 12, 2023) when I spotted this crowd. Folks were gathered around a man prone on the sidewalk and traffic was slowed and some stopped. I don’t know if he is a bicyclist who was forced off the road or someone who was walking and had a seizure. In any case, several folks were Good Samaritans and were with him until emergency services arrived moments after I took this photo.

Dark clouds were rolling in from the east here in Naples, Fla., when I got this shot on the late afternoon (early evening?) of April 20, 2023, as I was on an errand. The dark clouds contrast with the highway and power poles that were being illuminated by the setting sun behind my vehicle as I took this shot. Of course, clouds offer an endless variety of views and experiences because each moment is totally ephemeral.
This one isn’t the most pristine or full bloom on our Mister Lincoln rose bush, but it’s pretty nice for a Thursday! I got this shot at our home here in Naples, Fla., and the rose bloom is just past its prime. The shot was taken midday on April 20, 2023, as I was home for lunch.
You’ve been seeing and will continue to see “crane games” here in Naples, Fla. For a long time, we just saw construction cranes at WDW, but now they’re over our hometown, too. I got this shot of cranes on the development at a key intersection in our community. The development will be packed (for better or worse for residents and the community at large) as you can see they’re building right out to the major highway that is one boundary for the project. I got this shot today (Saturday, April 1) as I drove past the site.
With the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane season getting closer, I noticed that the neighborhood next to ours was getting its stormwater ditches cleared out. The Four Seasons neighborhood has stormwater ditches and this machine is run through a couple of times each year to keep the ditches clear of debris. I got this shot near our home in Naples, Fla., on April 6, 2023. I’ve photographed this machine before.
As this Friday afternoon melded into evening, I got this shot of the Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church steeple. The steeple of the church is one of the staple images of my blog and I got this one as I ran a late errand on Jan. 13, 2023. The evening sky was clearing after storms passed across Southwest Florida earlier in the day. The temperature remained cool and we’re looking at a chilly start for Saturday!
Gosh, I always find a nice angle to photograph at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library. I was at the branch today (Friday, Jan. 20, 2023) and got this shot through an arch. Not only are the clouds nice, but you can also see part of the warning banner where some landscape work is being accomplished in the courtyard. The branch is near our home here in Naples, Fla., and just interesting to visit at any time! Even on a Friday!
Although I’m 10 hours late posting this photo, I’m not letting the time element drive the conversation. I got this shot earlier today (Monday, Jan. 30, 2023) as I drove to work. I’m just now getting home from work here in Naples, Fla. The post is as nice right now as it was this morning. What a view while driving to work on a Monday!
You wouldn’t have much luck getting into the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library this morning (Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023) as the annual county services showcase was being held in the joint parking lot with the North Collier Government Center … and it is a popular event! Groups as diverse as the county’s Mosquito Control District to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office had tents and hand-outs for and to visitors. Here’s a shot of the showpiece of the event: a ladder truck from the North Collier Fire Control & Rescue District.
I just posted a photo of a blazing sunrise in the past week and didn’t want to post another “blazing” sun photo … but I have to post this one! Here’s a shot I got today (Wednesday, March 1, 2023) in the neighborhood next to our community here in Naples, Fla. I was on an early evening errand and noticed the nice angle of the setting sun and the wonderful color.
Clouds offer a never-ending panorama of opportunities to take a photograph. I enjoy posting photos of clouds. Here’s my latest: I got this shot today (Saturday, March 4, 2023) in our neighborhood as I returned from an errand here in Naples, Fla. The clouds offer an interesting view of the sunset. And, yes, my neighbor has a green light on his or her house … I’d say because Saint Patrick’s Day is approaching on March 17.
Here’s another nice photo I took on Monday, March 20, 2023, as I did a pick-up at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library. The setting sun was illuminating the top portion of the courtyard at the main entrance and even illuminated the bell in the mission-style building’s tower.
It’s bad enough that my two favorite Publix supermarkets have discarded Redbox kiosks and took away the convenience of renting a DVD, but now, I find that Walmart (or Redbox itself) disables a kiosk and you can’t use it! I got this shot at a Walmart superstore here in Naples, Fla., as I rented a movie today (March 26, 2023). I got in early at shortly after 6 a.m. and picked up the movie – “A Man Called Otto” with Tom Hanks, if you would like that detail. However, I’m not going to be able to watch it and return it tomorrow, so I took it back about an hour later. The machine was turned off and non-functional. Sigh. Now, I’ll have to find another location for a kiosk and take it there today.
A year ago, we had out last traditional Christmas Eve dinner at the Da Ru Ma Japanese steakhouse here in Naples, Fla. Tonight, Dec. 24, 2022, we found a new home for our tradition: Maguro sushi and steakhouse! It was an excellent experience and even had the most important part of any of our Christmas Eve dinners: FIRE! The chef tonight did a nice job as you can see! The couple at the end of the table was not with our party, but were interesting dinner mates.
I pruned our lone remaining rose plant (a Mister Lincoln hybrid tea rose) at Thanksgiving and today noticed that we have this beautiful bloom! The pruned bush is growing new stalks for blooms and I can’t wait to enjoy them in the weeks to come. I got this shot at our home here in Naples, Fla., on Dec. 26, 2022.
I’m using this view from the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library to show that the U.S. flag on this cell phone tower has been replaced. I took a photo of it last October and haven’t followed up. Well, with this post, I’m following up. The flag has been replaced and all’s well it its world. I got this shot on March 31, 2023, as I drove near our home here in Naples, Fla.
My “desk buddies” now have a front rat! On occasion, I photograph and post photos of my “desk buddies” at work. I was pleasantly surprised to find an addition this morning (Monday, April 3, 2023) when I arrived at the office here in Naples, Fla. No one would admit to putting the “front rat” on my desk, but I sure do like it! BTW … the “front” or lead for a musical group is known as the “front man” in U.S. English or “frontman” in UK English.
Here comes another “mega-home!” The neighborhoods along the Gulf of Mexico and related inland waterways of Naples, Fla., have become a hive of mega-homes – structures so large, intricate and luxurious as to each being pretty much a five-start resort. However, some “small” homes remain, but their number dwindles even as hurricanes strike the region. Here’s a shot from The Moorings, one of the area’s tonier neighborhoods. When the big equipment is parked out front, it’s arrivederci (goodbye!) old house and erano qui (we’re here!) for the latest mega-home. I got this shot while driving in neighborhoods in Old Naples on Nov. 12, 2022.
Here’s my first photo of a Gardenia bloom for Spring 2023! We have two Gardenia bushes at our home here in Naples: one on each side of our pool screen enclosure. A few blooms have popped out and, hopefully, more will arrive before the landscape crew mows ’em off. I got this shot today, Wednesday, April 5.
U.S. flags have been ordered to half-staff (remember, it’s half-mast only on ships) in remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II, who died Sept. 8, 2022. U.S. flags were initially ordered flown today (Sept. 11) at half-staff in honor of Patriot Day and in remembrance of the 9-11 tragedy of the terrorist attack on our country. However, the death of Queen Elizabeth added another component to the honor. I got this shot of the flags at half-staff at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library on Sept. 10, 2022.
A cloud moved in yesterday over our neighborhood here in Naples, Fla., and it appeared that the movie “Independence Day” had actually arrived! It was nice to continue to get rain in our area because it has been blazing hot over the past several weeks and the visual was pretty cool, too. I got this shot at our home on Sept. 3, 2022.
It’s that time of the year when the rising sun catches my vehicle’s mirrors each morning with a nice view. I got this image while driving to work on Sept. 1, 2022, here in Naples, Fla. It’s always nice to start the day with such a view!
When I see a rainbow, I take a photograph. Well, I got a rainbow and pretty much a second one today on Aug. 25, 2022, here in Naples, Fla. I was running an early evening (late afternoon?) errand when I saw the rainbow as I drove home to our house. Between sunrises and sunsets, there are still visuals that can make your day. Here is one of them!
It has been some months since I posted a photo of the blooms on the orchids in a large container on our patio at our home here in Naples, Fla. I found the best way to grow orchids is to put them in a big container and then leave them alone. Here’s the latest crop of blooms. I got the shot on Sept. 13, 2022.
When I headed off to work today (Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022), I has the pleasure of seeing a most spectacular sunrise at our home here in Naples, Fla. Although the scene changed when I got home in the afternoon, those dark clouds with rain are needed here in Southwest Florida. We can always use a little rain. I got both shots with my iPhone.

I didn’t get a chance to post this photo of a sunrise earlier because I had to go to work. However, it was such a beautiful sunrise that I’m posting it somewhat late in the day. I got this shot at our home here in Naples, Fla., as I went to work on July 27, 2022. The sun’s rays were just reaching out!
It’s interesting how clouds appear to hover over neighbors’ homes here in our community in North Naples, Fla.! I see the cloud and it appears as if an object from space has decided to land in our neighborhood. I got this shot as I returned home from work today, Dec. 21, 2022.
It was such a perfect moment that I could have stayed all afternoon today at the courtyard of the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library. It was just before 12:30 p.m. on July 23, 2022, when I stopped to photograph the courtyard. It was a wonderful moment with the sun and the shade from the tree. I truly enjoy taking photographs at the HQ branch of our public library system and today marks another one.
My golf clubs are back in their bag at our home here in Naples, Fla. I had all of my irons re-gripped with, what else, Golf Pride grips (the brand is the industry standard). It’s been about a decade since I had them re-gripped the last time. Ah well, no other summer chore such as taking your clubs to Golf Galaxy to be re-gripped. PS: They did a great job! I got this shot in the store today, June 23, 2022, after I picked up the clubs.
It would be nice if every morning would be greeted with a spread of clouds such as this one, but we should enjoy each one as it arrives. I was running an early morning errand today (Sunday, June 12, 2022) and took this shot while driving to the supermarket … yes, I still call the store by that moniker. The view is from an intersection near our home here in Naples, Fla.
My recent posting of photos taken at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library continues today. I often see a “straggler” push up from an otherwise well-trimmed hedge or bushes here in Naples, Fla. The afternoon sun on May 6, 2022, highlighted this wonderful “straggler” in the alley on the north side of the library. I was leaving the branch library when saw the “straggler” and photographed it.
Ah, the glory of a new garage door! It’s almost as exciting as a new dishwasher or when the lint-cleaner company gets your dryer back on track! Our old door at our home here in Naples, Fla., finally buckled a bit with a broken spring (see the photo), so we went all-in on a new door. It is hurricane-rated, insulated and has a double-spring system and wif-fi controls! I got this shot on April 18, 2022, when I returned home from work to find a nearly silent garage door opener!
An anti-crime effort! The Collier County Sheriff’s Office’s extendable reconnaissance tower was raised up this past weekend in the median of Juliet Boulevard between the Walmart supercenter and the TownePlace Suites by Marriott here in North Naples, Fla. I couldn’t see if there was anyone in the tower and I got the shot on Jan. 22, 2023.
A co-worker’s daughter brought blooms like this one to our office after school today and everyone received this most perfect of afternoon surprises. I’m not sure what kind of flower produces the bloom – it could be Amaryllis – but it sure is beautiful. What a delightful surprise for a Tuesday afternoon at the office! I got this shot with my iPhone on March 29, 2022, here in Naples, Fla.
Look really, really close into the center of this hibiscus bloom. You’ll find a bee. I was taking a photo of blooms on our special hibiscus when the bee buzzed in and went deep. Our special hibiscus has been at our home here in Naples, Fla., since I received it as a gift from my cousin and his wife at the passing of my mother. It will have been in this same spot for 18 years this coming May. I got this shot of the bloom on March 9, 2022.
