It appeared as if lava had taken flight as I left our home here in Naples, Fla., for work on April 19, 2021. It was just minutes before 7 a.m. when I got this shot with my iPhone and the beauty and wonder of the sight was gone within seconds as the clouds closed off the view of the blazing sunrise to the east. I just love taking this kind of photo and posting it on my blog.
There was fire in the sky from a blazing sunrise as I left for work from our home here in Naples, Fla., on Jan 7, 2021. We’ve seen a number of these blazing sunrises in recent weeks and they are simply sensational to view. PS: The more clouds the better!
It was just past sunset as I drove past the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library here in Naples, Fla., on June 18, 2021. I always check out the branch library for photo opportunities and I certainly wasn’t disappointed last evening, as the still-visible sky and the lighting in the tower of the mission-style building made for this neat shot.
Daily afternoon rains have made their June appearance here in Naples, Fla., and that means two things: One, that the parched conditions of plants, etc., will be rectified; and two, that there are more opportunities for photos! I got this shot June 3, 2021, as I drove home from work in a downpour near our home.
A hearty WELCOME today, Jan. 1, to 2021! Gosh, we’re praying that it is better than the 2020 train-wreck that will forever be remembered for the COVID virus and a virulent U.S. presidential election. I hope the rest of the year is a nice as the sunrise on the last day of 2020 … I got this shot of what I call “lava in the sky” as I left home for work here in Naples, Fla.
I remain a sucker for enjoying both the view of a blazing sunset and then taking photographs of the scene. Here’s a look at the few moments of the best of a blazing sunset here in Naples, Fla. I got several shots on Jan. 29, 2021, as I was driving near our home.
Here’s my favorite U.S. flag … and, with a breeze from the north, it is wonderfully illuminated by the late-afternoon sun. I got the shot as I was driving near our home here in Naples, Fla.
A nice start to 2021! I photographed my first contrail on Jan. 2, 2020, as I ran an early errand near our home here in Naples, Fla. If you follow my blog at all, you’ll know that contrails are one of my favorite subjects to photograph. This contrail was illuminated by the rising sun.
Here’s a shot of the latest beautiful bloom on our “Mister Lincoln” rose at our home here in Naples, Fla. I got the shot on Jan. 2, 2021, and just have to marvel at the beauty of this rose. I haven’t had much success with roses, but I’ve now had several nice blooms off this one.
OK, everyone! Listen up! It was Jan. 15, 2021, when I took this photo as a ran an errand near our home here in Naples, Fla. I write “listen up” because it’s time to … take down the Christmas decorations. Here’s just one example: A streetside sign for a strip-mall complex. Hey! It’s time to take the decorations down!
Southwest Florida is not Seattle or the northeastern U.S. … we don’t usually have overcast, chilly weather all day long. However, we were mimicking those regions here in Naples on Jan. 13, 2021, as rain clouds moved over the area and temperatures were certainly less than optimal by Florida standards. I got this shot outside our home in morning as I left for work.
As a Friday afternoon was about to fade away into evening and the coming weekend, I got this shot of the blazing sun as I drove near our home here in Naples, Fla., on Jan. 8, 2021. We’ve had some awfully beautiful sunrises and sunsets in recent weeks.
An early evening drive wasn’t eventful, but even an uneventful drive with the beauty of the sky on Jan. 6, 2021, made it a very pleasant experience. I got this shot near our home here in Naples, Fla.
I already photographed my first contrail of 2021 and I followed that up the next day with a photograph of a rainbow. I got this show of a rainbow in the late afternoon of Jan. 2, 2021, as I drove near our home here in Naples, Fla.

Here’s my first photo of 2021: It’s the sunset on Jan. 1. Well, it’s not much to see, but I did get the massive U.S. flag on a cell tower! I got the shot while driving near our home here in Naples, Fla. So, here we go with a new year after a most-challenging one of 2020.
From clouds on a bright afternoon to a full moon illuminating clouds, I certainly enjoyed Dec. 29, 2020, here in Naples, Fla. I got both shots as I drove near our home and it was just a delightful sight(s) to see!
Clouds, clouds, clouds! I love photographing clouds. However, I had to wait a few days to post a couple of images because of the Christmas season and other posts I needed to make to my blog. So, here is one of the photos of clouds that I photographed on Dec. 23, 2020, as I drove near our home here in Naples, Fla.
A stop at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library on Dec. 23, 2020, allowed me to photograph this interesting cloud formation that is highlighted by the mission-style architecture of the library’s building. A nice scattering of clouds in the later afternoon made for an interesting view near our home here in Naples, Fla.
Ah, the different views of a sunrise as I took a drive on Sunday morning, Dec. 20,2020, near our home here in Naples, Fla. The soon-to-be-blazing sunrise appears in front as I drive eastbound; fiery as a I drive southbound; and then even as a Publix supermarket truck goes past.

Along with sunrises and sunsets, another subject for my blog photos is … at the car wash! The wonderful blur of the spinning washing device to colors from the lights inside, I just enjoy getting a shot or two. I got this image on Dec. 5, 2020, at the car wash near our home here in Naples, Fla.

No, that isn’t a new spotlight on the roof of the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library, it is the full moon that is now spectacularly gracing our night sky here in Southwest Florida. My iPhone doesn’t photograph the moon very well, even though it appears very large in the sky. I stopped and got this shot Jan. 28, 2021, as I drove past the library branch.
It’s the time of the year when the setting sun’s rays are framed perfectly in the kitchen window of our home here in Naples, Fla. As we look out over the patio and pool, we get this nice blast of sunlight through the plantation shutters! I got this shot on Jan. 27, 2021.
Although we’d all like to put the year 2020 in our rear-view mirrors, it did have some beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Well, 2021 is developing many of its own … and here is just one example of a sunset that I photographed while driving near our home in Naples, Fla., on Jan. 25, 2021. Oh, and let’s not forget the contrail, too!

Here are the latest blooms on one of aloe vera plants at our home here in Naples, Fla. The plant was relocated during the past Christmas holiday season and I just now noticed that it was blooming! Although it offers a nice visual, my first photo of a bloom on one of our aloe vera plants is much, much more impressive.
It was a beautiful Saturday on the patio of our home here in Naples, Fla., on April 17, 2021. It was the first Saturday that I’ve spent pretty much the entire day on the patio. I needed to get it back in shape and get our plants back on track (I’ve been a little negligent of them lately). I’ve taken many photos from this same spot and never: 1) tire of the view 2) tire of taking a photo 3) posting the photo on this blog.
Only a few mornings a year do I see a blazing sunrise between the homes of my neighbors across the street here in Naples, Fla. I was fortunate to catch this one on a Sunday morning as I headed out to Home Depot for some garden supplies. It’s always a nice start to a day when you have a sight like this one! I got the shot with my iPhone on April 18, 2021.
I got out to play golf with friends for the first time in … well, a long time on June 13, 2021. We played at the Hibiscus Golf Club here in Naples, Fla. Although we were hit with rain for part of the front nine, it was an absolutely beautiful Sunday morning in which to enjoy a round of golf with friends. I got this shot of a particularly beautiful bush with tremendous blooms on the back nine.
What can you really enjoy on a weekend? Clouds! However, it takes a near-perfect day to get the most out of the experience. Here is one of two shots of clouds I got from the front yard of our home here in Naples, Fla., on June 12, 2021. You simply can’t get any bluer of a sky to highlight the clouds!

From puffy clouds to a glorious sunset, you don’t get much better visuals from the sky than I enjoyed on June 7, 2021, here in our hometown of Naples, Fla. I got the sunset photo as I ran an early-evening errand. Both shots show just how beautiful things can be … no matter what’s making “news.”
