Today is Dec. 16, 2014, and is the 70th anniversary of the start of the iconic “Battle of the Bulge” of World War II that showed the ultimate toughness of the U.S. military — click here for a historical perspective from Wiki. It was the final offensive by the German Wehrmacht on the western front and it caught the Allies by surprise. It hit many green U.S. troops hard (and the German SS even did a massacre of captured U.S. soldiers at Malmedy) but the resistance stiffened and we turned the initial losses into a major victory.
