Hurricane hysteri(a)cs: 2016 hurricane season is coming!

Hurricane Wilma toppled our big palm tree in our front yard in October 2005. The storm plowed across south Florida after running along a track from Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula to Naples in Southwest Florida and then across the state to pop out into the Atlantic Ocean. Our Naples home was undamaged, but our biggest tree fell.

Well, the 2015 Atlantic hurricane season has come to close. Each year’s season runs June 1 through Nov. 30. So today is the first day we are out of the 2015 season since June 1. Yesterday marked the official end to the season.

We are most fortunate here in Southwest Florida that we were not affected by or the direct target of a hurricane this year. However, we need to maintain vigilance as we look forward to June 1, 2016, and the start of the next hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean.

I call my hurricane posts on Facebook my “HURRICANE HYSTERI(A)CS” as a joke. Hurricanes are no joke and it is always wise to be very concerned about the possibility one could affect where you live (unless you live in Montana, of course). Click here for my few hurricane-themed posts on this blog.
