My movie suggestion for today is … watch the classic comedy “Fletch” with Chevy Chase. Here is just about the only example of my liking a film that changes the novel on which it was based. “Fletch” is a comedy that showcases Chase in one of his best efforts, but the novel is a serious story about a newspaper reporter who is pithy, smart and sarcastic while chasing real stories (and, like Chase would play, being asked to kill someone). “Fletch” takes the core story and fuses it with Chase’s humor and comedic touch. Unlike so many similar efforts, “Fletch” is a homerun. It was an immediate classic and is iconic for someone lying left and right. So, in memory of this great comedy that was born of a serious idea, watch “Fletch” again … and again.
