Today’s “must” movie is “Battle Creek Brawl” with Jackie Chan. Here’s Jackie’s first “major” motion picture from the Hollywood arena and it isn’t good, but it has so much watchability that I have to make it a “must” for today. It is sometimes title “The Big Brawl” (obviously a marketing attempt at rebranding), but it’s the same film.
Chan portrays a young Asian-American who kicks butt when gangsters come to extort protection money from his father, who runs a market. The acting is wooden in “Battle Creed Brawl,” but the fight scenes are really nice to my untrained eye. To Chan’s trained eye, he didn’t like them and wished he could have changed some of them.
In any case, Chan gets forced into being the gangsters’ entry into a big-money bare-knuckles fight in Texas (yes, there’s a Battle Creek in Texas as well as in the legendary cereal city in Michigan). Of course, all turns out well except for what happens to the bad guys.
Like I’ve already noted, “Battle Creek Brawl” is totally watchable; you’ll enjoy Chan and supporting actors such as Mako Kristine DeBell and Jose Ferrer; and the fight scenes are interesting. Don’t worry, you’ll enjoy the flick … I guarantee it!
