Today’s “must” movie is “The Silence of the Lambs” with Jodie Foster, who won an Oscar for her work in it. Here’s one of the few movies that is simply so effective that you probably won’t be comfortable sitting through a second time, much less multiple times. It won five Oscars and deserved every single one.
“The Silence of the Lambs” is the continuing story of the FBI’s psychological profiling department that specializes in finding serial killers. Yet, few remember first film “Manhunter” that introduced “Hannibal the Cannibal.”
Along with deep dramas such as “The Deer Hunter,” here is a motion picture that defies you to watch it a second time. “The Silence of the Lambs” so engrosses you (no pun intended) into the dark psyche of a killer and those who hunt him that you find it difficult to watch it again.
After Foster, you have Oscar winner (yes, for this one) Anthony Hopkins as “Hannibal ‘the Cannibal’ Lecter” and he’s … obviously superlative (although the character’s last name was spelled “Lektor” in the “Manhunter” film for no intelligent reason and the original character is almost played as well by Brian Cox as by Hopkins later). The film also won for best picture and best director for the late Jonathan Demme. Plus, you get the wonderful work by Ted Levine, whom you know as “Capt. Leland Stottlemeyer” from TV’s “Monk.”
You’ll have absolutely no trouble in finding “The Silence of the Lambs.” So, check it out today! You won’t be disappointed. I guarantee it!
