As a young reporter in Naples, Fla., in 1980, I covered the CCSO for four years before moving on to a different “beat” at the Naples Daily News. At the time, Aubrey Rogers was the sheriff and would be so until the end of the decade. When the Collier County Public Schools built a new high school near our home here in North Naples, officials said they would take suggestions for naming the school for a community leader. I was quite pleased to see after all these years – Rogers died in 2010 – that he would be so honored. The new high school with its mascot and sports teams called the “Patriots” opened this month and I got this shot while driving in the area on Aug. 26, 2023.
