It’s movie time! ‘True Lies’ is one of the best-ever action films

Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time tonight, let’s watch “True Lies” with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. Here is one of the truly best-ever action flicks … and it co-stars Jamie Lee Curtis (one of my all-time favorite actors).

“True Lies” is about a husband (Arnie) who is actually a “James Bond-ian” type agent for a secretive U.S. counter-terrorist force. It’s so secret that his wife (Curtis) doesn’t know about it or that he’s doing traveling for anything other than sales trips to the Midwest.

Of course, the couple’s relationship in “True Lies” has run aground as the movie opens and Curtis gets entangled in a potentially adulterous situation. She doesn’t go there, but Arnie gets to find out a lot about his relationship with her through his paranoid surveillance.

Oh, and at the same time, Schwarzenegger is saving the United States from being attacked by terrorists armed with nuclear weapons.

Whew!

“True Lies” has spectacular action scenes from U.S. jets shooting rockets into bridges spanning the Florida Keys (and a neat helicopter rescue scene with Curtis) to a wild chase in Washington D.C. where Arnie hops on a police horse to chase a terrorist on a motorcycle … and it culminates at the top of a multi-story hotel!

Whew!

The best surprise from “True Lies” is from Tom Arnold (yes,  I just typed “Tom Arnold” after the word “best surprise” ) as he does an outstanding job as Schwarzenegger’s sidekick. He’s marvelously funny delivering his kibitzing and pointed one-liners and this is a top-of-resume effort from him.

You won’t have any trouble finding “True Lies” …  so, what are you waiting for? You’ll love it! I guarantee it!
