We’re near the beginning of the fall season for 2025 and I’m continuing the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, let’s head to the world of international intrigue for “Bond, James Bond” and his “The Man with the Golden Gun.”
You get it all with “The Man with the Golden Gun:” Roger Moore, who was the second-best “Bond, James Bond” behind Sean Connery; international scope with this one playing out in Asia including Hong Kong and China; a supervillain in “Francisco Scaramanga” with screen horror legend Christopher Lee as the assassin’s assassin; and the usual landscape of beautiful women and action scenes.
Of course, you get the signature droll comedy quips that highlighted Moore’s efforts as “Bond, James Bond,” but also a reprise of country bumpkin sheriff “J.D. Pepper” who, after popping up in Asia, becomes Moore’s temporary sidekick for a car chase.
“The Man with the Golden Gun’s” climax comes in a one-on-one showdown with “Scaramonga” on the villain’s island along the coast of China. You simply can’t go wrong with “The Man with the Golden Gun:” in this streaming day and age and will enjoy it … and then you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
