Each March 30 is national Pencil Day and I’m using a cluster of classic Dixon Ticonderoga No. 2 lead pencils on my desk at home to illustrate this day in 2026. According to several online sources, Pencil Day is a day to honor the pencil, each of which (normal size) can be used to write up to 45,000 words. Sadly, the pencil with eraser created by Hymen Lipman is becoming extinct across most of society as technology erases it from all but history books. I took this photo at our home here in Naples, Fla., on Feb. 26, 2026, for a different post (national Retro Day on Feb. 27).
