Each May 29 is national Alligator Day and today is Friday, May 29, 2026! So here’s my celebration of all things … GATOR! Yes, the American alligator is the mascot of my beloved University of Florida as well as being Floridia’s official state reptile. Some credit the founding of Alligator Day to the Wild Florida Adventure Park, (once called Wild Florida Drive-Thru Safari Park). We are in that business’ “Gator Week” that ends tomorrow (May 30, 2026). All I know is that the Gator is a symbol of my university and its related sports teams … and everyone at UF (well, practically everyone), enjoys doing “the chomp.” Here’s a photo of my oldest memento from by days at UF: a ceramic Gator on the dashboard of my vehicle.
