Each June 1 is World Reef Awareness Day. I did more than 100 hours of scuba diving as a teenager and our family did some snorkeling during cruises as our children got a little older – including, as you see in this photo, the day in 2009 when we went together over a shallow reef near Cozumel off the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico. Sadly, coral reefs are threatened by humanity, while being key to maintaining ocean environments across the globe. Since today is June 1, 2026, please take a moment to reflect on the importance of protecting reefs.
