I’m starting to need an ornithologist to tell which species of grackle we have visiting our new “smart” bird feeder. Is this a boat-tailed grackle (Quiscalus major) or a common grackle (Quiscalus quiscula)? I can make a case for both from photos on each’s page on Wiki, but I cannot be sure. Our new bird feeder obviously has a camera (a BirdBuddy with a motion detector and livestreaming) and the built-in network has identified both. Oh, well, we’re just enjoying seeing so many birds in the backyard of our home here in Naples, Fla. I did a screen shot with my iPhone to capture this image earlier today (Monday, June 8, 2026).
