Each Aug. 24 is national Waffle Day and, so, there’s just one way to celebrate: with a waffle! However, you have quite a variety to choose from, including, according to internet sources: Belgian, Hong Kong cakes, stroopwafels and galettes. I’m repurposing a photo I took during the opening of a Metro Diner location here in Naples, Fla., in 2017, but, sadly, the Naples location has closed and the closest is now in Cape Coral to the north of Naples. Ah well, there are many other diners and locations to enjoy a waffle and the “holiday” was established to honor the day in “1869 when Cornelius Swartwout received the first U.S. patent for a stovetop waffle iron.” Click here to see all my photos of waffles and most will be from our trips to Walt Disney World … (Remember: Click on the small image for a bigger version – then click on that one for the full-size photo.)
