Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s go very dark with “The Silence of the Lambs” with absolutely perfect performances by Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins and solid work by the rest of the cast.
“The Silence of the Lambs” won five Oscars including best in film, actor, actress, director and adapted screenplay. It’s the story of two serial killers: one in a dungeon-like prison cell and the other lining up and taking victims. Their link becomes an FBI trainee named “Clarice Starling” played by Foster. The killer in custody becomes one of the most iconic characters in crime cinema: “Hannibal ‘The Cannibal’ Lecter” played by Hopkins to the creepy gold standard you’ll find in any horror or crime flick.
With just under 25 minutes on screen, Hopkins won the “best actor” Oscar with the second-least amount of time before the camera of any Academy Award “best actor” winner. I believe they might have given him two if he got more time in front of the camera.
As far as the story of “The Silence of the Lambs” goes, the FBI is working feverishly to find a serial killer who is racking up the murder count. Then he grabs the daughter of a U.S. Senator and the FBI goes from high-speed to flat-out racing against time.

Just as before in another case, an FBI agent (Foster) is sent to talk to imprisoned serial killer “Dr. Lecter” (Hopkins). The two become entangled to the point that you know their fates are ultimately tied together. It’s an unforgettable pairing of actors and a screenplay that evokes the best from each.
BTW … the original “Dr. Lecktor” (that’s how director Michael Mann’s film credits spell the name) was played nearly as well by Bryan Cox in the somewhat forgotten “Manhunter” that was later remade with Hopkins again doing the “Lecter” thing.
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “The Silence of the Lambs.” It is available on more than a half-dozen subscription services or to rent or buy on a variety of streaming services. You will thank me later for “The Silence of the Lambs.”
