2015 Atlantic hurricane season begins today

Today is June 1. You know what that means? It is the official beginning of the 2015 Atlantic hurricane season. Sigh.

That’s right. The official beginning. We’ve already had one named system (Tropical Storm Ana in early May – click here for advisories about it). The worst piece of news about the season is that it is predicted to be “below average” (click here for a story about the prediction). Since both official and unofficial forecasts are usually wrong, that would be bad for the coming season.

If you don’t believe me, then here’s an AP story about how we might be “due” a big one even though things have been quiet for a number of years (click here to read it). I hope I don’t have to pull out my “HURRICANE HYSTERI(A)CS” updates this year.

The worst months will be – as always – in August and September and we’ll just happen to see what happens.
