We’re back! Well, at least just Allison and myself for an old-fashioned father-daughter trip to Walt Disney World. The summer blackout dates for our Silver passes ended yesterday and today (Aug. 12, 2017) Allison and I are headed back for an overnight visit. Today’s photo is a gallery favorite images from all our visits to Disney over the years. Enjoy, just as I am today!
Mickey and Minnie always greet guests each morning at the Welcome Show to open the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. I grabbed this shot in August 2014 after Mickey and Minnie arrive on the Walt Disney World Railroad. Update from 2017: Sorry, folks! but this opening scene no longer takes place!
We’re back at Walt Disney World for Allison to run the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon. Here’s a shot she got at the Magic Kingdom on the night before the race (Nov. 5, 2016). She’s great with fireworks and nighttime photos with my or her Nikon DSLR. Cinderella Castle had an ever more fairy tale look about it.
Some call it the “EPCOT ball” or just the ball, but here’s yet another shot I got of Spaceship Earth at EPCOT. It was the evening of March 3, 2017, and I was headed back to Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside when I took advantage of the color projected onto the sphere. We were at Walt Disney World for a long weekend.
I’m continuing to post Allison’s great shots at the fireworks show on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom. This one looks like mouse ears over the Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World.
Happy Fourth of July in this year of 2016! Using the holiday as a theme, today’s Disney photo is fireworks by Allison. She got some great shots of fireworks on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom. Of course the fireworks go off over the Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World.
One of the really nice stage shows (even better than “Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage”) is the Festival of the Lion King at the Animal Kingdom park. I got this shot on Feb. 8, 2015, during the performance.
I really like to take photos of the monorail. Here’s another as the monorail passes above the Coral Reef restaurant at EPCOT. I got the shot March 5, 2017, before we headed over to hear Dennis DeYoung of Styx fame in the Garden Rocks Concert Series 2017. We were at Walt Disney World for a long weekend.
Allison is a very good photographer and she’s got a “good eye” with the camera. She got this almost surreal view of the walkway out after a ride on Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World on Dec. 16, 2015.
Allison grabbed this shot of “Darth Maul” during a performance at the Hollywood Studios special Villains night in August 2014. “Star Wars” is big and getting bigger at Walt Disney World.
While taking a ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover at the Magic Kingdom, you’ll see this strange sight. Kind of like a nightmare from “Sheldon Cooper” on “The Big Bang Theory,” huh? The PeopleMover, which was called the WEDWay PeopleMover until 1994, according to Wiki, is closed and will now reopen by mid-August.
Here’s a really neat shot I got at night of the pyramid that dominates the Mexico Pavilion in the World Showcase at EPCOT. I took the photo on March 5, 2017, as I walked back to the transportation center after watching Dennis DeYoung of Styx in the Garden Rocks Concert Series 2017 at Walt Disney World.
Here’s another shot Allison got as we came to the end of our first ride on Walt Disney World’s new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride in August 2014. It’s more of a close-up than the first I posted. The new, popular ride is good but we don’t believe it measures up to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom. Check out all my Disney photos below.
It appeared that “Governor Ratcliffe” of “Pocahontas” was out during the Hollywood Studios special Villains night in August 2014. Allison grabbed this shot with some neat backlighting.
The Living with the Land boat ride at EPCOT in The Land pavilion across from Soarin’ is one of my favorite “little” rides. It’s a walk-on most times and has a fun presentation and then tour through a fish farm and hydroponic gardens. One of the neatest things we ever saw growing at The Land was a nine-pound lemon. It’s was big as a bowling ball. I grabbed this shot on Nov. 12, 2013, while we were at Walt Disney World and you won’t always find one growing.
Here’s the first photo I’ve posted from the Coral Reef restaurant at EPCOT. It was one of the few restaurants we hadn’t visited at Walt Disney World and we had our first dinner there on March 5, 2017. Here’s a shot of a small ray swimming past our table. If go to the Coral Reef, get a table next to the glass – it’s a tremendous dining experience.
Here’s one person taking advantage of the big rocking chairs on the veranda of the building housing Tony’s Town Square Restaurant at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. I, too, was getting a respite on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, on the veranda.
An acrobat entertains at the Italy Pavilion at EPCOT in this shot snagged by Allison on Jan. 3, 2015. Allison and Debbie made a day trip to Walt Disney World to kick off the new year.
I got this shot of a performer at the Festival of the Lion King performance. I call him the “fire dude” and I got the shot Feb. 8, 2015, while we were at the Animal Kingdom park.
When I snagged some nice shots of giraffes at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom park during the Kilimanjaro Safaris ride, this was one of the best: a mugshot of a giraffe. The photo was taken in November 2013 during one of our five visits to Disney World since last September. Oh, here’s the link to my other photo of giraffes at Animal Kingdom.
Here’s a basic photo of Splash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom. I took this shot at Walt Disney World on Aug. 17, 2016, because we were there when the sun was excellent for illumination of the big drop on the ride.
Here’s what a cheapskate does: He takes a photo of the photo that Walt Disney World’s cameras have taken of you on a ride. Guess who I am in this photo-of-a-photo from The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride? Look, go ahead and buy the photo when you’re at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the ride or any of the other parks. Geeze. What a cheapskate! I got my own photo of my photo on March 6, 2017.
Here’s a close-up of an Amphicar that I got on Feb. 4, 2017, as we arrived for lunch at The Boathouse. Amphicars launch from right next to the restaurant at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World.
The big letters that spell out All-Star Sports at the Disney resort make for interesting photos, and here’s a nighttime take on them. I got this shot May 20, 2017, after we arrived back from the fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom. We were on weekend visit to Walt Disney World when I got the shot.
What’s this? Of course it’s a line inside the Toy Story Midway Mania ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but the decoration is something that not everyone recognizes – a View-Master reel! We were at Walt Disney World on May 20, 2017, when I got this shot with my iPhone.
In 2014 I posted my first shot of the then-new accordion-style bus being used in the Walt Disney World transportation system. Here’s a shot Allison got Dec. 15, 2015, while waiting for her and Debbie’s bus to arrive at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort.
Even Walt Disney World‘s navy has its own sticker. Allison got this shot of her watercraft sticker on Oct. 1, 2015, as she headed to the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. She was going from the Yacht Club and Beach Club resorts to EPCOT.
Allison got this shot of a nice view of the Haunted Mansion at the Magic Kingdom from the Liberty Square Riverboat. Allison took the photo on Aug. 16, 2015, as she and Debbie visited Walt Disney World.
I should have taken a bit more time to frame this mural and the Mickey ears architecture better at Contemporary Resort. We were getting off the Resort Monorail (or waiting for … I cannot recall) when I got this shot on Feb. 8, 2015. We were at Walt Disney World for a long weekend.
When Space Mountain stops for a repair, the interior lighting is turned on and you can see the framework of the roller coaster while on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Debbie got this shot with her iPhone while she and Allison were on the PeopleMover on the evening of May 15, 2015.
Allison was at Walt Disney World yesterday (Nov. 22, 2014) as the Barron Collier High School Marching Band — she’s on the dance line – performs during the Main Street parade at the Magic Kingdom. She sent this shot from her iPhone: Disney cast members escorting riders off Splash Mountain when it stopped.
Here’s a shot that shows Mickey’s PhilharMagic entrance at the Magic Kingdom with the Cinderella Castle in the background. Allison got the shot Jan. 30, 2016, on a day trip to Walt Disney World.
Although not an iconic image such as Cinderella Castle, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is one of my favorite places to take photographs. Here’s one I got the evening of Feb. 4, 2017, as we were at Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom. We were on a weekend visit to Walt Disney World.
It’s a nice exhibit of the terracotta warriors at the China Pavilion at EPCOT, but when you’ve visited the real thing in Xi’an in China … well, the exhibit at Walt Disney World is good but not great. Allison got this shot during her and Debbie’s day trip on Jan. 3, 2015.
