My alphabetical posting of suggested films continues today with “Max Dugan Returns.” Here’s legendary screenwriter and playwright Neil Simon’s worst-performing film, but I find “Max Dugan Returns” simply marvelous. “Max” has a stellar cast headlined by Marsha Mason in her prime and was the big screen debut for Matthew Broderick. Still, it is Jason Robards as “Max Dugan” who steals the show and your heart. He’s a long-absent father turning up on Marsha’s doorstep with a suitcase of money stolen from the mob in Las Vegas. “Max Dugan Returns” then just captures your heart. Find it. It will take some effort, but “Max Dugan Returns” will be one of your favorite “I never remembered it” films.
I’m posting all my film reviews in alphabetical order and I’ve updated links and more on many of the reviews. Below is the link back to the full review.
