Look closely! You’ll find a novel by one of my favorite writers: the late, great Peter Gent. He was an NFL player in the 1960s and wrote a seminal novel about the sport called “North Dallas Forty” (click here for my review of the film made from the novel). I’ve seen the book in this episode of “Two and a Half Men” that opens in a bookstore and you see one of Gent’s lesser-remembered works … “The Conquering Heroes” about sleaziness in college basketball (Gent was a basketball player at Michigan State who played football for the Dallas Cowboys). You’ll also see “The Company” by Robert Littell. I finally decided to snap a shot of the scene. I guess Hollywood and TV needs old books to fill out shelves for scenes. For the record, the episode “That Special Tug” aired in January 2006 and “The Conquering Heroes” was published in 1994, while “The Company” was published in 2002. I took the screenshot on Sept. 17, 2019. (Remember: Click on the image for a bigger version – then click on that one for the full-size photo.)
