Try this flick … “The Great Escape.” Here’s one of those big-cast, big-screen war films that you don’t find any longer. Here’s one of the granddaddies … “The Great Escape.” Of course, Hollywood bent the story a little to put an American as the headliner (the now-legendary and late Steve McQueen), but “The Great Escape” is a great film from veteran director John Sturges and penned for the screen by the venerable James Clavell. “The Great Escape” is the story of Allied POWs tunneling out of a German POW camp in World War II. Much of “The Great Escape” is factual … especially the depressing fact that the Nazis executed 50 of the more than 70 men who escaped and had the misfortune to be caught.
So, I’m doing a sometimes recommendation of a movie or TV show … and they’re all movies or TV shows that I’ve reviewed on this blog. Below is the link back to the original review.
