Try this flick … “Bobby Deerfield” … which is a rare example of a hideously bad film starring Al Pacino and directed by Sydney Pollack. “Bobby Deerfield” should have been a winner. It’s the story of a Formula One race car driver haunted by a crash that injured a friend and where he met Marthe Keller. All the ingredients were in “Bobby Deerfield” for Pollack from the fragile race car driver to the emotional ingredient of Keller, but everyone comes up empty in this one. I recall being in the theater for the film in 1977 and a moviegoer stood up and booed during the credits. I had a fond memory of “Bobby Deerfield,” but, after watching it again, I’m booing it, too!
