Try this flick … “Semi-Tough.” Here’s a movie that wouldn’t be made today because it can be called a variety of derogatory terms beginning with misogynistic. However, “Semi-Tough,” a football movie starring Burt Reynolds and Kris Kristofferson, is wonderful because it totally kicks the “self-improvement” movements into the gutter. “Semi-Tough” has bad football scenes and a lot of bad acting, but Reynolds, Kristofferson and, especially, Jill Clayburg as their best friend, bring a lot to the screen. It’s best part is that it totally mocks everything from EST (“you’re an a**hole!”) to Rolfing (where a 007 villain “rolfs” the co-star) and all other contemptable self-help garbage that oozed out in the 1970s to become the crapfest that the self-help movements are today? Ah, I regress. “Semi-Tough” isn’t a good film, but you’ll enjoy it (for some reason).
So, I’m doing a sometimes recommendation of a movie or TV show … and they’re all movies or TV shows that I’ve reviewed on this blog.
