Watch It! Let’s get back to comedy with “Splash.’ Here’s a woefully underrated comedy with virtually every big name (to come) for Hollywood in 1984: Headliner Tom Hanks and co-stars Daryl Hannah, John Candy and Eugene Levy, plus director Ron Howard. “Splash” is simply comedy perfection in cinema. It has a great plot; excellent screenplay; and a cast-to-die-for. “Splash” is the story of a man who falls in love with a mermaid who comes ashore and learns English by watch television at Bloomingdales. “Splash” was actually an Oscar nominee for best original writing for the screen (no surprise), but it’s terrible that none of the actors earned a nomination, nor did Howard’s direction. Ah well, they might not have won awards, but “Splash” is an excellent comedy that has stood the test of time. So … Watch It!
