Watch It! OK, today’s pick is “Manhunter.” Do you believe “Dr. Hannibal Lecter” made his debut in “The Silence of the Lambs?” Wrong! Do you believe that the movie “Red Dragon” was the first adaptation of the novel? Wrong! Do you believe that the magnificent Anthony Hopkins was the first “Dr. Lecter” on screen? Wrong! “Manhunter,” which was made by the stylish “Miami Vice” producer Michael Mann, was the first movie with “Dr. Lecter.” OK, so Mann stupidly changed the spelling of the name “Lecktor,” but he was still “Dr. Lecter.” The actor playing him was Brian Cox (later of “Super Troopers” infamy) and he did a great job. All-in-all, “Manhunter” isn’t a great flick. However, it does a neat job and is totally watchable and William Petersen does a good job at the good guy. Of course, “Manhunter” is about the FBI’s behavioral unit that helps track down serial killers and this one doesn’t disappoint in story form or with the wonderfully choreographed climactic violence at the end. So, find “Manhunter” and … Watch It!
