Watch It! “Whip It” is a wonderful film (and Drew Barrymore’s first effort as a director). I’m no longer in the teenager-in-angst flicks, but “Whip It” has roller derby and is totally watchable. “Whip It” is the story of a small-town girl who’s sick of the pageants that mean so much to her controlling mother and she wants to find herself – and a boyfriend. Well, she finds both in “Whip It” at the roller derby and “Bliss Cavendish” becomes “Babe Ruthless!” Oh, a “whip” in roller derby is where one skater propels another forward with a “whip” of the arm. Also “oh,” like I noted, even if you don’t want another teenager-in-angst film, you’ll have to enjoy “Whip It.” So, get out there and … Watch It!
