Watch It! “And the Band Played On” is an early HBO effort in filmmaking and showed in the early 1990s that the future of movies wasn’t necessarily in Hollywood. “And the Band …” is adapted from gay journalist Randy Shilts’ book about the emergence of AIDS and the early victims, politicians, doctors and scientists who was the first wave in the war against it. I don’t explore any of the controversies (and there were many) and “And the Band …” has a huge cast that includes A-listers to a supporting group of actors’ actors. Check out “And the Band …” because it is a terrific film and you should … Watch It!
