I’m reprising my own post as today is June 6, 2022. Here I go with repeating myself: It was 78 years ago it became known as the “Longest Day” and there is a totally classic film of that name. Remember, June 6, 1944, was the day of the allied invasion of Europe in World War II and was the beginning of the Nazis’ end in the west. Many films have been made about what is most commonly called D-Day and you can honor the fallen through cinema today. As a campaign, more U.S. soldiers died in the Normandy landings and subsequent battles to break out from the invasion area (29,204) than any other campaign. It was 3,000 more fallen than from Meuse-Argonne offensive in World War I (26,277) or the Battle of the Bulge in WWII (19,276). I first wrote about the D-Day anniversary in 2014, which was the inaugural year of my blog.
