On your home big screen: ‘Rough Cut’ isn’t Burt at his best, but it is fun

Looking on the big screen at your home today, give a try, if you can find it, to “Rough Cut” with Burt Reynolds, Lesley-Anne Down and the legendary David Niven. “Rough Cut” isn’t a great film, but I enjoy Burt and his “adventure” films. “Rough Cut” is the story of an American ex-pat (Burt) in London, who owns a restaurant and is a top-class jewel thief. Niven is the cop who’s about to retire and wants to catch him. There are twists and turns in this caper film, but you won’t be surprised at the end. One interesting trivia note: Larry Gelbart, who created TV’s “M*A*S*H,” wrote the screenplay for “Rough Cut,” was so disgusted with the outcome that he got his name removed from the credits and instead had placed the name of “Francis Burns,” who, as “Frank Burns,” was the nebbish character from “M*A*S*H.”

You will have trouble finding “Rough Cut” for your “big screen” at home. Although not a good film, it is worth the effort.
