Depending on the source, it appears that license tag covers such as the one in this photo are a no-no in the state of Florida, although you’ll see them all the time in traffic. A Florida Highway Patrol trooper from the Orlando area says that any cover, clear or tinted such as the one in the photo, is illegal. Some sources even note that some tag frames are illegal, too. The state statute includes … “A person may not apply or attach a substance, reflective matter, illuminated device, spray, coating, covering, or other material onto or around any license plate which interferes with the legibility, angular visibility, or detectability of any feature or detail on the license plate or interferes with the ability to record any feature or detail on the license plate.” Of course, some drivers would argue that covers such as the one on the car in this photo does not obscure the tag. Check out the wording of the law for yourself with the link below. PS: I’ve blurred the tag number for the owner’s privacy, but didn’t change the color or opacity of the plate. I got this shot driving home from work today, July 1, 2022, here in Naples, Fla.
