After Hurricane Ian: This storm spelled doom for a once-magnificent Tabebuia tree

March 2020

I know that so many people are dealing with the loss of all their worldly goods, much less those dealing with the death of a family member in the wake of Hurricane Ian last month, but a very minor sadness for myself is the loss of one tree. Annually, I’ve posted photos of my favorite Tabebuia tree in the Four Seasons neighborhood next to ours here in Naples, Fla. Despite storm damage before, including from Hurricane Irma in 2017, this tree survived. However, it is now gone for good. The owners of the property must have tired of the broken branches and subsequent clean-ups. The tree had damage after Hurricane Ian and has been cut down. Ah, I’ll miss the annual beauty of the tree and it leaves the home rather bare in the front.
