Looking on the big screen at your home today, take advantage of the big view for some “real” car-chase and car-crash scenes in cinema. No, I’m not talking about the CGI-injected foolishness that took over for real stunt work (although the CGI’s realism can be really excellent), but real car chases in movies.
Just take the real deals with Steve McQueen in “Bullitt;” Gene Hackman in “The French Connection;” and Roy Scheider in “The Seven-Ups.” All had most of the same stunt drivers and stunt coordinators and all are masterpieces from an era where you didn’t get CGI to help. So, get out there and check out “Bullitt,” “The French Connection” and “The Seven-Ups.”
In the world of trivia, Hollywood stunt drivers have quite a slice. Take Bill Hickman, who was a supporting actor, stunt driver and stunt coordinator on “The Seven-Ups.” He was also a driver and supporting actor for “Bullitt” and “The French Connection.” Long before “Bullitt,” IMDb.com tells us that “… he was accompanying James Dean to a race in Salinas, California, driving Dean’s station wagon and car trailer while Dean drove ahead in his Porsche Spyder. Dean died in an accident on the way and it was Bill Hickman who extricated Dean’s body from the wreck.”
You’ll can find all three for your “big screen,” so, use your big screen to see what real automotive action is all about!
