Looking on the big screen at your home today, you cannot go wrong with “The Caine Mutiny” and its seven Oscar nominations. Here is one of Hollywood’s classics and stars Humphrey Bogart with a supporting cast that brings near perfection to the film. “The Caine Mutiny” is the story of a sad-sack crew on a shabby destroyer in the Pacific theater in World War II. In comes Bogie as the new skipper with orders to clean it up and get it in top-notch shape again. Of course, Bogie is as mentally fractured as his new crew is tired from their combat missions. Bogart is simply superb in “The Caine Mutiny” and you can’t miss the excellence of Van Johnson, Jose Ferrer and Fred McMurray in an out-of-character role for him.
Sadly, “The Caine Mutiny” did not haul in any statues from its seven Oscar nominations, but it deserved just about all and you can find out for yourself on your “big screen.”
