Today’s “must” movie is from the “James Bond” franchise and it has a wonderful trivial view of Las Vegas – “Diamonds are Forever.” Here’s Sean Connery’s final flick as 007 (and, no I don’t count the ’80s flick he did as “Bond” as a real 007 movie) and he’s simply superb! “Diamonds are Forever” is about smuggling diamonds (what else?) that blends into a threaten-the-world scenario by Bond-ian arch villain “Blofeld.” Like all 007 films, this one has an international flavor from Europe to South Africa and back to Europe before landing in the U.S. at spots including Las Vegas and the waters off Baja, Calif.
Along the way, you have the absolutely stunning Jill St. John and she’s a woman and not just another “Bond girl” as the catch-phrase of the day would call a female in the 007 world. With “Diamonds are Forever,” you’ll also get the late Jimmy Dean … yes, he’s real and, despite his death, you see him in breakfast sausage commercials today. No, he’s not the also-late James Dead of fame from other films.
So, make sure you go out of your way to watch “Diamonds are Forever.” It offers a great look at Las Vegas’ “Strip” circa 1971. You won’t be disappointed … I guarantee it!
