Today’s “must” movie is “Deadpool.” Here’s a really outstanding super(anti)hero flick for all of us who are not enamored with the big-screen antics of superheroes. Ryan Reynolds stars as “Deadpool” and he is the smart-ass with both a capital “S” and capital “A.” Plus, he’s sarcastic and, if you’re a bad guy, he’s pretty cruel, too.
I know that so many people are in love with the CGI-infected “superhero” flicks that appear the only kind of film that comes out of what’s left of Hollywood these days, but “Deadpool” is the contrarian version for those of us who enjoy snarky repartee with the CGI violence – and “Deadpool” is a one of the few examples of a film with both.
You won’t find much in the way of a supporting cast with “Deadpool,” but venerable TV star Leslie Uggams is simply terrific as “Blind Al” and holds her own all too easily with the headliner. Also, I enjoy the work of T.J. Miller as “Weasel,” the bartender backstop and foil to Reynolds’ non-stop verbal assaults.
I’m sure you loved “Deadpool” when it came out, but if you haven’t seen it, make sure you do so today. You’ll enjoy “Deadpool” from beginning to end … I guarantee it!
