Today’s “must” movie is “Dutch,” a comedy-drama written by John Hughes and starring Ed O’Neill. Here is yet another movie that bombed at the box office, but is totally and completely worth your time. No, it is nowhere near being perfect, but the cast works well together and it has some endearing moments.
In “Dutch,” you have your basic dysfunctional “society” family. Dad’s divorced Mom and he’s the snootiest of the social snoots and O’Neill, as the headliner “Dutch Dooley,” is her new boyfriend and sets out to bond with her son … who works very hard at being even snootier than his father. “Dutch” wants to form the bond on a road trip for the boy back home for Thanksgiving. Yeah. Right.
Well, as you might guess, after a rough start, “Dutch” and the boy manage to bond and have an educational and endearing night at a homeless shelter. Although “Dutch” is more drama than comedy, you’ll laugh at times, but you’ll enjoy the endearment of drama with the laughs.
I’m not sure how difficult it would be finding “Dutch,” but whatever it takes … do it and you’ll enjoy it. I guarantee it!
