An image of the U.S. flag to close out Memorial Day 2023

To close out Memorial Day 2023, here’s a view of the U.S. flag and the POW/MIA flag being flown today (Monday, May 29) at the Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library. It’s too bad there wasn’t more of a breeze to make the flags display better. As a note on this Memorial Day, the U.S. flag was to be flown at half-staff (half-mast on vessels) until noon and then raised again. I got this shot after noon. Here is the official note about flying the U.S. flag at half-staff and the protocol on Memorial Days: “The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then slowly lowered to the half-staff position. The flag should be again raised to the peak before it is lowered for the day. On Memorial Day the flag should be displayed at half-staff until noon only, then raised to the top of the staff.” (Remember: Click on the small image for a bigger version – then click on that one for the full-size photo.)
