In the world of closed captioning, some criminals have a religious side

As artificial intelligence expands, it’s wonderful to realize just how stupid a result of AI can be in today’s world. Here’s an example from today’s congenitally stupid closed captioning in which a criminal “prays” on his or her victims. Well and of course, it should be “preys” on victims, but, since the AI of closed captioning is basically stupid, it can’t judge the difference between words that are pronounced the same. The word that describes two words that sound the same but have different meanings is “homophones.” I’m almost scared to use it in this caption! All in all, it just goes to show that the future of AI isn’t very rosy. Or, should I spell it, “Rosie” as in The Riveter? I got this shot off our TV in the family room of our home here in Naples, Fla., today (Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023) from a recorded episode of “Highway Patrol.” Click here to view other examples of closed captioning stupidity … (Remember: Click on the small image for a bigger version – then click on that one for the full-size photo.)
