Christmas(time) countdown 2023: Don’t forget ‘Jingle All the Way’ in your movie lineup

Today’s “must” movie is next in my annual Christmas(time) countdown of flicks. Today, Dec. 22, 2023, moves to a “kids” Christmas movie with “Jingle All the Way” with Arnold Schwarzenegger. More than a few “huge” stars (no pun intended for the muscular Arnie) have a Christmas movie and this is his to share with comedian Sinbad.

The story of “Jingle All the Way” is of a business-minded man who neglects his family especially at Christmas time by never being there for the family stuff – karate graduation by his son; the Christmas Eve parade; possibly even Christmas Day itself. Well, he forgets to buy the hottest toy of the year – a “TurboMan” doll of the superhero character from TV and movies — which he should have gotten months before (as if modern kids wait that long for a “hot” toy or video game) and then needs to run one down on Christmas Eve.

Good luck. Along the trail, Arnie begins to compete with Sinbad as a mailman who’s also looking for the toy. The two compete as part of hordes shopping on the day before Christmas and Arnie even winds up at a cheesy toy knock-off factory and having a donnybrook with a bunch of nasty Santas.

Of course, naturally and in the end, Arnie emerges as the hero in “Jingle All the Way” and literally saves the day (if you haven’t seen the film, I won’t spoil it for you).

The most fun aspect of “Jingle All the Way’s” supporting cast is the late Phil Hartman, who plays Arnie’s wormy neighbor and who’s trying to get into Arnie’s wife’s pants (and she’s played by Rita Wilson, who in real life is Tom Hanks’ wife), while you’ll certainly recognize Robert Conrad as the police officer who keeps popping up in Arnie’s life just in time to torment him a little more.

“Jingle All the Way” isn’t a very good film, but it has the spirit of the season (even with Arnie having a drink with a reindeer – watch the film, it is somewhat in context) and you won’t have to suffer through the classical crap that’s so usual at this time of year.

Just like all my Christmas(time) film recommendations, you won’t have any trouble finding “Jingle All the Way” and you’ll have some fun with it … I guarantee it!
