Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time today, let’s watch “Role Models.” Here’s another raunchy R-rated comedy … and I’m a total sucker for raunchy R-rated comedies filled with puerile humor.
In “Role Models,” you get Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott as friends who work for the same energy drink
company. After Rudd has a meltdown at a school presentation (his girlfriend just said she wouldn’t marry him), the two wind up in court and ordered onto community service.
Rudd wanted to go to jail, but he was overruled by Scott (as well as filmmakers, who wouldn’t have a movie, otherwise).
Now begins the “Role Models” portion of the film: The guys are paired with a couple of boys who are recalcitrant … one being moody and lost in a medieval world and the other a foul-mouthed pre-teen who looks upon everyone else as being a fool.
OK, then we go to the stereotypes. They bond; they un-bond when the road gets rocky; and they re-bond and all’s well at the end.
Best of all in “Role Models,” you get Jane Lynch in a supporting role of being the head of the charity organization that’s saddled with Rudd and Scott. Lynch is her usual terrific self here and didn’t have to stretch her acting talent much to make sure you laugh just about every time you see her on screen.
Details abound and the cast overcomes the stereotypes, but I’m not going to go any further about that in this recommendation story.
You won’t have any trouble at all finding “Role Models” and when you do, you will find it funny (if not hilarious) … I guarantee it!
