Here’s a sad sight that, unfortunately, occurs all too often here in Southwest Florida: A Florida box turtle is crossing a street. I most often see a Florida softshell turtle on the roadway, but today was this Florida box turtle. I suppose that it was active because it was in the relative cool of the morning here near our home in Naples on July 9, 2024, and the heat of the day wasn’t yet upon us. Thankfully, a commercial truck driver got out and helped it finish its journey as he was faster than myself (and I was pulling over and parking when he got out). I got this shot with my dash cam. Oh, just for transparency … I used Photoshop to crop the image; and to remove the morning sun’s haze.
