Closed captioning has reached a depressing low with YouTube’s version

I’ve been critical of closed captioning for some time now (and I have a specific tag on my blog for it), but now, I’m doing my final post about it. Since we switched to the streaming service YouTube.com, I found over the past three months that the CC that is common today (translating voice instead of someone listening and typing in the correct CC) is so seriously flawed that it isn’t to be believed. Here’s just one example … notice how a pitcher in a baseball movie (“Major League”) has “pissed” a heck of a game. Really? “Pissed?” Well, that’s what CC heard and that’s what it printed on the screen. Since this is a low point from which there’s no recovery, I won’t be posting about CC any longer because I could be doing it on the hour and every hour of every day. I got this shot at our home here in Naples, Fla., on July 8, 2024.
