It’s movie time! ‘TAG: The Assassination Game’ is another film in a small genre

Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time tonight, let’s watch “TAG: The Assassination Game.” My last recommendation was “Gotcha!” and “TAG: The Assassination Game” is a second film about a game of make-believe killing. However, “TAG: The Assassination Game” focuses completely on the game, while “Gotcha!” told a much wider story (and told it better).

“TAG: The Assassination Game” is about a game of “killer” in which college students stalk each other and shoot and “kill” each other with toy guns that fire plastic suction-cup darts. Robert Carradine is the ostensible lead – he plays a university newspaper reporter who gets caught up in the game while pursing a co-ed (Linda Hamilton … you remember her as “John Connor’s” mother in “The Terminator” franchise).

The heart of “TAG: The Assassination Game” story is that the game’s best player is accidentally “killed” through a freak shot from a bad player. Losing the game causes him to lose his mind, go and get a real gun and do a real unpleasantness on the guy who knocked him out of the game. After that, he’s gonna use the real gun and next on his list is … you guessed it … Hamilton.

You won’t find much in the way of a supporting cast in this one except for Hamilton’s best friend played by Kristine DeBell (she knows how to use a bikini to “kill” a rival) and a brief appearance by comedian Michael “Police Academy” Winslow as one of the game players … and you’ll recognize his voice immediately.

I don’t have much more to say about “TAG: The Assassination Game” other than work a little and find it (I’m not sure if it’s still on YouTube) and it’s a decent way to spend an hour-and-a-half … I guarantee it!
