Boo! It’s that time of the year again as Halloween 2024 as arrived!
Once again, there is only ONE horror film that needs to run continuously at your residence all day today! It is the legendary “Halloween” from equally legendary director John Carpenter and starring “Scream Queen” to be Jamie Lee Curtis.
“Halloween” has the perfect blend of a story, scares, horror and just the right amount of gore (not too much, but not too little). Plus, it can scare you into getting a chill any time you see someone in a mask … you don’t know what they might do next!
Of course, “Halloween” is the story of a man named “Michael Myers,” who escapes a mental hospital and has one goal in his homicidal mind. He’s been there since he was a youngster who killed his family. Now, he’s coming back with a bad attitude, an aptitude with a knife and apparently what he believes is more than a few scores to settle! He’s not going to be carving jack-o-lanterns with his knife!
After Carpenter and Curtis, the only “name” in “Halloween” you might recognize in the cast is Donald Pleasence, who plays “Michael’s” psychiatrist, and most of the supporting cast does a solid job and keep this one on track for you.
Here are a few bits of trivia about “Halloween” …
- Needing a mask for “Michael Myers,” a member of the production crew bought a mask in the shape of “Star Trek” hero William Shatner’s face. They painted it white, altered the eyeholes and junked up the hair. Shatner didn’t know until much later that the mask was of his face.
- Curtis’ character is named “Laurie Strode” after a former girlfriend of Carpenter.
- Curtis was paid $8,000 for her work on “Halloween.”
Naturally, a series of films was spun off from “Halloween” and it has been a popular franchise and Curtis has been back in the first sequel and others.
