Hooray for Hollyweird! Norm Macdonald in ‘Dirty Work’ … bad, bad, bad … really bad

For this year, I’m going with the reminder of the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, I’m going to say stay far, far away from “Dirty Work” – it’s the grand stinkbomb of a so-called “comedy” featuring the late Norm Macdonald and other actors who should have known better.

“Dirty Work” is a miserable excuse for a movie; its so-called “acting” is a step down from dinner theater (sorry to insult dinner theater actors); and the direction from Bob Saget is a joke; and the screenplay is mind-numbing with a few bright spots.

The idea of “Dirty Work” is for two friends played by Macdonald and Artie Lange need to make some quick money and so they set up a service whereby they get paid to play pranks so folks can get “revenge” on someone else. OK. That’s all you need to know about it.

Macdonald is horrible in “Dirty Work;” Lange shouldn’t have been in it; Chevy Chase is an embarrassment; the late Chris Farley is uncredited; Jack Warden would hang his head in shame if he was alive today; and I’m not going to say anything negative about the legendary Don Rickles’ effort.

Whew! Well, that is an indictment of the so-called “film.”

If you dare, you’ll be able to find “Dirty Work” on a streaming service and you can always say, “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
