For this year, I’m going with the reminder of the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, let’s check out a bit of fun, family-friendly fare with “Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows.” It is the sequel to the even more wonderful “The Trouble With Angels” and both star Rosalind Russell in two memorable performances.
Of course, you’ll probably remember that both films are about Catholic school girls who get into trouble – but, NOT that kind of Catholic school girl getting into THAT kind of trouble! This is 1960s fare, but both have strong messages that, while quite saccharine at times, make for two interesting films.
“Where Trouble Goes, Angels Follows” has only some of the nuns and one student as repeat stars in the production from the original, with Russell headlining as the “Mother Superior” of the convent-school. Russell again does a great job riding herd on a different rodeo – this time the girls are headed to an interfaith peace rally across the country and travel by the school’s bus.
The story of “Where Trouble Goes, Angels Follows” is told around their adventures along the way (you never see a peace rally) and they’re all G-rated … even then they spend the night at a Catholic boys school along the way (OMG!).
However, what the film doesn’t offer in “edge” or vulgarity it would if made today, it does offer a look at a changing Catholic church in an age of change for all faiths and everyone in the country. It does so through both conversations as well as the demeanor and strength of the individual nuns.
It’s a streaming world, it might take a little work to find “Where Trouble Goes, Angels Follows,” but it’s worth it … and then you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
