We’ve begun summer of 2025 in earnest and I’m continuing the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, let’s get back to comedy with the classic pairing of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito in “Twins.” You know it; you’ve seen it; but you need to see it again!
“Twins” is the story of a genetic experiment in which the DNA of several men is mixed together in hopes of creating somewhat of a “superman.” It did. You get Arnie as “Julius Benedict” … and at 6-foot-2, he has a bodybuilder’s build from one of his “fathers” and the intellect of others. You also get Danny as “Vincent Benedict” … and he’s 4-foot-10 and is nothing more than a lowlife criminal.
In “Twins,” Both men believe they are orphans without siblings because, while Arnie was nurtured as a child and reared into manhood, Danny was literally cast aside into an orphanage to fare on his own.
Of course, Arnie finds out the truth that he has a twin brother and sets out to find him. What he finds is a steaming pile, but Arnie doesn’t care: he loves his brother! Danny takes a little bit to warm up to Arnie, but then begins to use the bigger man’s strength and physical skills to his own profit.
Underlying the story of “Twins” is Danny looking to sell some jet technology after finding it in a car he stole, but the best story is the bonding of the two and them finding their mother, who was told Arnie died at birth and didn’t know she delivered two sons. Sorry, I hope that wasn’t a spoiler for you!
Reports of a sequel to “Twins” has circulated for years with Eddie Murphy reportedly offered to the triplet in the trio, but nothing has come of it.
“Twins” is a classic and need I write more. We’re in a streaming day and you can easily find “Twins” … and then you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
